- chiefgeek parentGave me a new appreciation for the scale of the investment /bet that is being made on transportation of the future.
- I’ve sat with 5MeO-DMT over a dozen times, always in the form of Bufo flake from the toad. It has been one of the most transformational and healing modality I’ve encountered. I have a low dose Jaguar (synthetic) pen that I use occasionally.
I’ve also used NN from a pen. It gave me a strange body load and intense kaleidoscopic visuals.
- Yes. Came here to to say this has been done before. It was too much for the Establishment to stomach. Ram Dass, Tim Leary’s associate (Richard Alpert at the time) talks about it here - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ram-dass-here-and-now/...
- I've been almost completely off social media (and candy - potentially a larger problem in the past for me) for a month other than to check once or twice a day to see if somebody has messaged me (rarely) and it really has been rather profound to experience life with the lack of regular hits of dopamine. It is such a subtle "drug". I've still been on a computer and surfing the web but not nearly the same amount of time as I was spending on my phone and social. I sat a ten day Vipassana course in 2016 - a profound experience that was at least an order of magnitude more impactful with regard to being off of "screens". There's definitely a cost that accompanies any perceived benefits of social media interaction. As in all things - balance!
- I’ll leave this here.

- They are doing some interesting stuff over at https://scienceandnonduality.com
- I find this utility very useful for working with windows on the Mac.
- I've run my own successful database consulting business, been a sales rep, development engineer and product manager for a Fortune 50 company, ran a startup that I left, was VP ops for another startup, digital sales support rep, digital photo lab owner and photographer. I'm 53. Anything is possible. Agree with suggestions to hire a career coach. Mine was great when I went through a terrible patch in my early 40s. DM me for his contact.
- I filled out DoD form for TS clearance years ago and answered honestly that I had smoked weed and done coke in college. That's what my boss said to do. He said if they caught you in a lie you were finished because that meant you could be blackmailed.
EDIT to add: Ironically he had gotten in trouble for phone phreaking as a teenager.
- Sorry to hear about the suffering you endure with your condition. Have you investigated any somatic work? How about psychedelics? Over the past 10+ years, I've gotten myself off a 200mg dose of Zoloft, along with Wellbutrin and Adderall through a combination of the above. I've seen others heal similarly.
- I do not. I had a psychiatrist years ago who insisted I was ADHD. I was also on heavy dose of Zoloft. He prescribed Adderall XR. Took it for months. Did nothing. Years later, I've done a ton of transformative work on myself. I realized it (the supposed condition) was mostly about me not wanting to do what was in front of me. I've tried taking both standard Adderall and XR in the recent past and it does absolutely zero.
Possibly related - my PCP gave me a genetic test and it showed that I have some gene configuration that essentially makes me immune to the effects of caffeine. Which makes sense, because I have to drink a boatload to feel anything from it.
- Great article. My first car was a 1966 MG Midget (with a '71 engine). Gas gauge never worked. Voltage regulator broke at some point so it had to be push started (no hills in Florida made this more fun) and the first winter I had it I kept waking up with a headache. Finally traced it to a cracked exhaust manifold. First time I had driven around with the top up and I was getting gassed by CO. When the transmission failed, my buddy and I pulled the engine with an aluminum extension ladder (you couldn't just drop the tranny due to a frame piece across the trans tunnel). Had the tranny rebuilt, put it back together (with an engine lift) and it turned out they hadn't done it correctly. Rinse repeat....
- I was never a big news guy to begin with. Haven't had cable since 2009. For awhile I read the NYT and for a shorter while, Talking Points Memo. I've quit reading most world news and especially political news. His point that
>“Being concerned” makes us feel like we’re doing something when we’re not<
is what really drove it home for me. I can do more to improve the world if I am in a good mood and improving myself than I can if I walk around angry that X is happening somewhere.
CNN and Fox are so far apart they practically touch.
- I've been using Fastmail for years. Love it. Rarely a problem. Support always responds within 24 hrs if there is. Ended up having to move my calendars back to Google Workspace so they could sync with Acuity (SquareSpace) Scheduling. Really annoying that they can't provide hooks into other standard CalDAV services.
