  1. Interesting, I've been using this skill https://github.com/SawyerHood/dev-browser to save on context and get some more speed. Will try this out!
  2. I’m convinced leadership at Apple are not power users. They’ve never put MacOS through their paces, or did any development themselves it seems. If they did they would have found all of the bugs and irregularities and huge performance problems themselves.
  3. >Companies can't really be expected to police themselves.

Companies can't. Employees can. If someone's still working at Meta, they are ok with it.

  4. Unfortunately I have a similar experience. If someone's working at Meta right now, and has been in the past 10 years, they're willingly and actively contributing to making society worse. Some open-source tech is not going to undo any of this, nor any of the past transgressions. I get the pay is probably great, but have some decency.
  5. “On its website, Thomson Reuters markets CLEAR as a tool that has saved an abducted baby, identified a wanted man, and caught a sexual predator. “

Ah yes, think of the children! I wonder whose cronies will be whitelisted from this app.

  6. I think Cook did an awesome job taking the reins at Apple. I can understand Cook not being a 'product visionary' as Jobs was (although Jobs also delivered some real stinkers), don't forget some of the people below Cook are still fossils from the Jobs era. I have no insight in the Apple of today, but they seem spread incredibly thin and all products and services are suffering from it.

They don't seem to have an overarching product strategy that will benefit users (does benefit shareholders though), but they're also not nimble to quickly shift gears to trends.

  7. Looks cool! What's the latest innovation in 'sails' (shape/tech) development? And what would it take to scale a cargo sailboat to take >100k tonnes load?
  8. Oof. Weavy was well-priced as a tool. I really hope this doesn't get the same pricing treatment as the other Figma services.
  9. Maybe you can checkout the Dephy Exoboot: https://www.dephy.com No idea how far along they are though, but looks like they are open for early access.

    I'm sure you've already seen https://eu.hypershell.tech

I'm hopeful these get cheaper, smaller and lighter, and more powerful. Would be great to have these accessible to a lot of people.

  10. The Moonwalkers from Shift Robotics from 2022 come to mind, but are noticeably different. Or the Dephy Exoboot: https://www.dephy.com which is also 'the first'
  11. He's probably referencing Framework's involvement with Omarchy, which certain people had problems with.
  12. Good thing it's not a car company, so a reboot is easy.
  13. Well, that's the same guy that planted Palantir in the Dutch government, since 2011.
  14. The USA probably doesn't worry much, our Dutch government and related services all run on AWS and Microsoft Office/Azure. All internet access flows through the same cable the NSA has access to. Radio traffic is intercepted in multiple locations in The Netherlands.

So sure, there are probably some signals the USA won't receive, but they still get the bulk of it.

  15. One of the problems is that I don’t notice a meaningful difference(that’s worth the money) between my M1 and my M4 workloads. (Dev/video). Obviously the rendering is faster but the OS isn’t. Tahoe makes my M2 feel like an intel mac.

Chip, memory and storage are really fast, but I’m fully convinced that the OS is crippling these machines.

  16. The OS and stock apps are much slower in Tahoe even. And the UI updates/interactions are also slower. I’m lucky I only upgraded my least used machine, and that’s a well stocked M2.
  17. Isnt that more because gambling is ingrained with American culture? It’s seems to be pretty much everywhere.
  18. I'm excited to see what the newly added matmul accelerators will do to the pro versions of these chips.
  19. OSX file I/O is really, really slow with large amounts of small files. Wondering if Apple will ever fix that.
  20. Also, will these swarms even be picked up by radar?
  21. I think most of the negative comments are about morality and Zuck’s, Meta’s, Meta’s workers and Meta supporters lack thereof.
  22. These SpaceX scams are rampant on youtube and highly, highly lucrative. It’s crazy and you have to be very vigilant, as whatever is promised lines up with Elon’s MO.
  23. Some will undoubtedly find a new job in a commercial space company. A lot of research will be lost and more importantly will never happen now. Commercial companies are mostly divided in transportation and warfare, not exploration, or have a longterm horizon. It’s going to be hard to do climate research when the administration discourages you. I bet a lot of employees might opt to just retire in this post-science America.
  24. Still need people to press buttons though. But I feel too many decisions have to go through a tiny set of people. But I have no insights into the org. I do wish they would do more smaller releases. Like update Notes without a full OS update.
  25. It feels like they are spread way too thin, and individual teams are not allowed to improve their app/services/parts on their own. If I had to work on Apple Notes I would have several suggestions, not all worthy of work of-course, but letting a lot of apps go stagnant is something else entirely.
  26. Yes, you can type /model in Code to switch model, currently Opus 4 and Sonnet 4 for me.
  27. What would this do other than run Claude Code in the same directory you have open in VSC?
  28. They can, of course, but why would they waste time on it? They are buying a tool, talent, and a heap of paying enterprise customers. This is a steal.
