- Interesting, I've been using this skill https://github.com/SawyerHood/dev-browser to save on context and get some more speed. Will try this out!
- Unfortunately I have a similar experience. If someone's working at Meta right now, and has been in the past 10 years, they're willingly and actively contributing to making society worse. Some open-source tech is not going to undo any of this, nor any of the past transgressions. I get the pay is probably great, but have some decency.
- I think Cook did an awesome job taking the reins at Apple. I can understand Cook not being a 'product visionary' as Jobs was (although Jobs also delivered some real stinkers), don't forget some of the people below Cook are still fossils from the Jobs era. I have no insight in the Apple of today, but they seem spread incredibly thin and all products and services are suffering from it.
They don't seem to have an overarching product strategy that will benefit users (does benefit shareholders though), but they're also not nimble to quickly shift gears to trends.
- Maybe you can checkout the Dephy Exoboot: https://www.dephy.com No idea how far along they are though, but looks like they are open for early access.
I'm sure you've already seen https://eu.hypershell.tech
I'm hopeful these get cheaper, smaller and lighter, and more powerful. Would be great to have these accessible to a lot of people.
- The Moonwalkers from Shift Robotics from 2022 come to mind, but are noticeably different. Or the Dephy Exoboot: https://www.dephy.com which is also 'the first'
- The USA probably doesn't worry much, our Dutch government and related services all run on AWS and Microsoft Office/Azure. All internet access flows through the same cable the NSA has access to. Radio traffic is intercepted in multiple locations in The Netherlands.
So sure, there are probably some signals the USA won't receive, but they still get the bulk of it.
- One of the problems is that I don’t notice a meaningful difference(that’s worth the money) between my M1 and my M4 workloads. (Dev/video). Obviously the rendering is faster but the OS isn’t. Tahoe makes my M2 feel like an intel mac.
Chip, memory and storage are really fast, but I’m fully convinced that the OS is crippling these machines.
- Some will undoubtedly find a new job in a commercial space company. A lot of research will be lost and more importantly will never happen now. Commercial companies are mostly divided in transportation and warfare, not exploration, or have a longterm horizon. It’s going to be hard to do climate research when the administration discourages you. I bet a lot of employees might opt to just retire in this post-science America.
- It feels like they are spread way too thin, and individual teams are not allowed to improve their app/services/parts on their own. If I had to work on Apple Notes I would have several suggestions, not all worthy of work of-course, but letting a lot of apps go stagnant is something else entirely.
