  1. So in a way it is similar to Subscription ?
  2. That’s what I’m actually doubting in one of the screenshots, it says “Hi Arun,” but the author’s name is David.
  3. They have since updated it slightly

    > Since originally writing this blog entry in 2021, we have increased our salary a few times, and it now stands at $207,264. We have also added some sales positions that have variable compensation, consisting of a lower base salary and a commission component.

  4. This is slightly bigger version I wrote around 13 years ago. :)

  5. This could work with a Wikipedia-like model. It's very difficult to pull off, but a next-generation Wikipedia would look like this.
  6. "rumor" is a statement without source. It is definitely possible in machine world.
  7. The applicant has submitted the following application:

    Provide a harsh and direct rejection explaining why this idea won't work (unless for the real good idea), pointing out potential flaws, market issues, team problems, or execution challenges. Be specific and refer to details from their application. Your tone should be direct, blunt, and slightly condescending (or like Paul Graham that obsessed, counterintuitive, and logical) but provide real constructive criticism with solutions. Keep your response under 300 words.

  8. " If you plug a laptop into a closet at MIT to download some scientific papers you forfeit your life."

    This is exactly what I immediately thought while reading the article. It almost feels like the legal system only punishes general public, while most of these guys are above it.

  9. Thank you for sharing! It might be a bit off-topic, but videos like this remind me why I fell in love with computers in the first place. Thank you!!
  10. "Paras" in Sanskrit means "someone who, by their touch, turns anything into gold."
  11. Not only web but majorly all OS pdf renderers support JS. It used to be a major source of malware long back.
  12. User A : its not raining

    User B : since the sun is shining brightly , it is clear that there are clouds in the sky. the clouds in the sky is a sign that it is about to rain here. And since it is about to rain here, it is a already raining somewhere. Hence it IS raining.

    Results :

    User A : 1 votes

    User B : 6 votes

    Landslide win! ( for user B )

  13. Not only YouTube, but even Google Meet is completely unusable on Firefox. I've noticed memory usage spikes on Firefox, while all other video conferencing platforms work fine. On Chrome, it works perfectly.
  14. > it'd be distracting, they're open source devs/maintainers not fund managers

    Exactly this! It is extra responsibility which distracts from the core project.

  15. > popularity is a good heuristic for relevance , but it is not the primary factor.

    Is the statement not valid for products too ?

  16. That you, looks interesting. But the license is not specified on Github.
  17. What you are saying is that slavery is not bad because they get to eat now.
  18. Is it common for a CEO to not know that their NDAs are highly restrictive and punitive?
  19. > Dubai is comically ill-equipped to deal with rainfall.

    Isn't that more scary?

  20. I recently made something similar. I started with the same foundation you currently have (aim to make "neutral" and "de-sensationalized") but ultimately narrowed my focus exclusively to Developer news (since I couldn't achieve desired results). There were always something amiss.
  21. I had worked on something similar around 11-12 years back ( no way close to perfect or of any use :) ) https://github.com/nautical/CBullet

    Basically you can do something like this in c :

    var value;

    value = data(100);

    // or

    value = data(0, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6);

  22. Apple does not allow access to iCloud services through any automated script, scraper, or similar means [1]. Are you sure you're complying with these terms? As a customer, it's important to consider this (think of the Beeper case).

    [1] https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/icloud/

    >i. interfere with or disrupt the Service (including accessing the Service through any automated means, like scripts or web crawlers), or any servers or networks connected to the Service, or any policies, requirements or regulations of networks connected to the Service (including any unauthorized access to, use or monitoring of data or traffic thereon);

  23. Looks like it! Even code quality has dropped 'significantly.' I used it once in a while to clean up the code after writing a POC. It used to do decent work before, but now I almost always can't use the code generated at first shot.
