- PerfectElementI agree. HN basically became Reddit.
- Any tips on how to migrate a very large ASP.NET MVC app (framework 4.8), that is still in active development, with tens of thousands of users, without a complete feature-freeze? Am I able to migrate to .NET 7 in small increments over a long period?
- New infections is not a very relevant metric at this point.
- I sold a SaaS that was making around that amount in ARR. I used an M&A firm that was specialized in selling bootstrapped SaaS businesses. We ended up getting more than 10 offers which drove up the final price and allowed me to choose the best fit. I would have never been able to go through the process alone and get the multiples that we got offered.
- I'm seeing some errors in my applications, but most requests are still working somehow.
- Vegans actually tend to have higher testosterone: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2374537/pdf/83-...
“Vegans had 13% higher T [testosterone] concentration than meat-eaters and 8% higher than vegetarians.” Not only did vegan men have as much testosterone as meat eaters, they actually have 13% MORE of this manly hormone. On the flip side, too much testosterone can be a bad thing because it leads to higher levels of IGF-I – a risk factor for certain cancers. Surprisingly, the report also found this: “Vegan men had on average 9% lower IGF-I levels than meat-eaters.”
- We are doing 200k+ in MRR and looking to move from Stripe because the cost is starting to hurt, and this change feels unfair. Our use-case is pretty simple (capture card and manage subscriptions) and we don't need all the features they have built in the last 5 years or are planing to build.
We are looking into Spreedly. Does anyone have other suggestions of Stripe alternatives that are not so expensive?
- > The most part of diseases of this decade are caused by plant based diets.
I'm not sure if you are being serious. Approximately 3% of the US population claim to be 100% plant-based, and you are saying that this 3% is responsible for most part of diseases?
- I practically stopped having headaches once I started using blue light blocking glasses. Not only at night, but when I first wake up too, specially if it's still dark.
- I'm sure there are very rare exceptions, but if it's a simple product and it only takes 2 weeks to build it, it probably won't add that much value. If it does, the market is, or will be, saturated with competitors due to the low barrier to entry.
- They acquired LastPass in 2015.
- I follow the same philosophy, but my side-project got out of my control and its monthly profits now cover 12x my expenses.
Of course, maintaining it became a lot more stressful than when the MRR was at $10k and I had to hire a small team to help.
I still try to keep things under control by spending most of our time on product and customer support, and zero time/dollars on marketing/ads. This keeps our growth rate manageable (3%-5% per month). I also ignore all interested investors/buyers that want to scale the business.
At our revenue level, I realize I could probably sell the business and never have to work again, but I'm enjoying the ride and afraid of what the pressure to scale could do to our customers.
- I was using Google Places' address auto-complete on a CRM, and most users loved it. Chrome's behavior completely broke this functionality by overlaying their auto-fill on top of Google Places suggestions, with no sane way to disable it. We decided to stop using address auto-complete and force our customers to type the address fields instead.
Ironically, we were paying Google a few thousand dollars per month for this, so they are not getting our revenue as a direct consequence of Chrome's behavior.
- >For every warning statement on animal CO2 use, I can find a seemingly well done study on positive CO2 capture by regenerative farms (i.e. traditional farms before feed lots).
It looks like you are actively looking for data that makes you feel good about your habits and suspending critical thinking. The amount of evidence for the negative impact of the animal industry on the environment is staggering.
- Since I believe that being vegan is usually the most impactful thing an individual can do, and I don't have the skills necessary to encourage other people to go vegan, I donate money to people who are good on doing that. So I support some educators on Patreon that are doing a great job, like Earthling Ed and others.
- United States Cattlemen's Association.
- Bioaccumulation is a big issue with fish. Have you tried getting omegas from algae supplements?
- > It's amazing to me how someone can (almost) exclusively eat vegetables and enjoy it.
I think this is a common misconception. Vegans don't eat only vegetables, they eat every type of food, except animal products. It's very likely that most of the dishes you enjoy have a vegan version that tastes great. If you live near a big city, try out some of the vegan restaurants to see what chefs are able to do nowadays.
Also, tastebuds change and you'll eventually get the same steak dopamine hit by eating something else. I, for instance, used to hate Indian food, and now Chana Masala is one of my favourite dishes.
> I cannot even fathom doing that FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE.
That's not a logical way to think about things. When I go out for a run, I don't think "I have to run every day for the rest of my life otherwise it's worth going". I don't think anyone would ever exercise if they followed that logic.
- It looks like you're going through a tough period and lashing out on people who chose to have less than 3 kids.
