I usually type out a comment and then think, why bother?

  1. It's been blowing my mind reading HN the past year or so and seeing so many comments from programmers that are excited to not have to write code. It's depressing.
  2. Benchmarks are super impressive, as usual. Interesting to note in table 3 of the paper (p. 15), DS-Speciale is 1st or 2nd in accuracy in all tests, but has much higher token output (50% more, or 3.5x vs gemini 3 in the codeforces test!).
  3. Honestly, I use revanced on my android phone which lets me disable all shorts content appearing. and on browser if i stick to the subscriptions tab and maybe the sidebar on videos, there's no shorts.
  4. before reddit banned a ton of subreddits for no moderation, I believe r/assistedsuicide was the place for discussion like this.
  5. Yep, DDR5 prices have nearly doubled in less than 2 months. https://pcpartpicker.com/trends/price/memory/#ram.ddr5.5200....
  6. Yeah it's so annoying. Hitting back and stopping loading (or just hitting back) usually gets me to the page.
  7. yeah its pretty funny, i wonder if they prompted the llm to put as many emojis in as possible:

<edit> forgot hn doesnt show emojis, so ill just link to the paragraph: https://github.com/st-tech/ppf-contact-solver?tab=readme-ov-...

8 emojis in 2 sentences, lol

  8. rough math: 1000 kwh / mo / house, ~30kwh/kg hydrogen so 30kg H per mo per house. idk how long winters would be, 8 months is 240kg of hydrogen, which if compressed to 10 bar is roughly 300 cubic meters of storage. kinda a lot of space. compressed to 100 bar is like 10kg/m3 which sounds more manageable
  9. yeah, and mac too, can't run league or valorant. vanguard is their kernel-level anticheat, and windows is like 95% of their market and the difficulty of implementing it on another kernel i guess isn't worth the <5%.
  10. yeah they introduced vanguard anticheat on all riot games which isn't supported on linux.
  11. Important to note that article was written 9 years ago and NMS has received numerous content updates since. There's a lot more to the game now.
  12. float.exposed is fun
  13. It's worth visiting this release page to see the adorable banner
  14. Charitably, perhaps they're simply asking for podcasts that they would be interested in listening to that cover these topics. Personally, I would like to listen to a podcast that talks about semiconductor development, but I've done approximately zero research to find them so I'm not pressed for an answer :)
  15. oh i see, thanks! i might be too used to reading backblaze reports :p
  16. $125/disk, 12k/mo depreciation cost which i assume means disk failures, so ~100 disks/mo or 1200/yr, which is half of their disks a year - seems like a lot.
  17. Similar, post on the Henon Attractor 4h ago: https://www.hackerneue.com/item?id=45424223
  18. Wait does that work?
  19. yes. look up 'ruin my search history' or similar - it floods your history with questionable searches.
  20. source message, since the lkml link wasnt loading for me: https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/CAHk-=wjLCqUUWd8DzG+xsOn-yVL0Q=...
