  1. Ignoring the aesthetic, it does what it needs to do. It is an internet layer designed to formalise professional profiles for those who need one. And actually, even Instagram could be seen as a contender to it. YT, hackernews profiles, Twitter profiles even, are used as professional front platforms by many. There is no need for a contender because Linkedin is a poorly thought solution to an ill addressed problem. Moreover, it is undesirable to spend any more time than needed polishing a persona that is mostly relevant for a transitional life periods. Other social networks have become more addictive to use, and Linkdin is now incorporating such features to amalgamate the broadening depths of human time wasting.
  2. If local backups were not so hard... It is sometimes impossible to back up an iPhone to a computer; yet seamless to backup to iCloud... Infer what you will. I am skeptical of over reliance and dependance on Apple more than ever. Unfortunately, interoperability is something we can wish for rather than expect.
  3. It is only fitting that Meta Glass becomes as opaque as iOS 26.
  4. Fascinating. Also, wow, this website is awesome, thank you.
  5. Medium, Substack, Reddit and even X, are all evolutions of personal blogging. How do we over come the issue of promotion of independent blog pages?
  6. I am very grateful how the title of the actual article linked saved 40 minutes reading the whole thing.
  7. Apple has already cross a red line, it stepped over to one that has little interest in user experience. Recent releases of MacOS and iOS and iPadOS have given rise to Windowsesque complexity and ugliness. I have used Macs since the Classic, and am sad to say I no longer ascribe to the cult of Apple.
  8. Ok, this is a great idea for an App. Thank you. Amazing!!! Well done for solving this problem! And to preempt any sceptics.. doing the cleaning whilst the mac if off is futile. The Mac will restart/power on.
  9. Let's be clear. It is not the actual smartphones that do this; machines are designed and programmed by humans. Companies can choose to use technology to manipulate our emotions and trigger our reflexes, and many do choose just that, often for financial gain.
  10. The Hunger Games, The Handmaid's Tale, and Squid Games were just desensitisation PsyOps. Who could have imagined that the dystopian future was now?
  11. I believe that the more populist layer of the www became social media apps. Hosted LLMs (claude, chatGPT etc) are going to become the popular source of information and therefore narrative. What we must remember is that we should retain control of our thoughts, and be aware of how we can share them without financially interested parties claiming rights to their use or abuse. I am trying to solve some of these problems with NoteSub App - https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/notesub/id6742334239 - but have yet to overcome the real issue of how we can stop the middleman keeping the loop closed with him in between.
  12. Does any one else remember when they remotely deleted 1984 from people's devices due to... 'copyright issues'
  13. Also, would love to hear any tips you have for eeking out use...Sounds like you may have some...
  14. Depends if you use xcode or not...I still have my macbook 12inch, for work use, it is amazing, but I can't run the latest xcode, making it defunct for some of my uses. It would be fine running xcode weak as it is; i am sure. Liquid glass might have killed it tho.
  15. Obsolescence for Macs comes when Apple decides not to allow your mac update the OS to the latest one.
  16. I really like the blue colour. What is not great... It defaulted to google search, so I can't agree that it is very private.
  17. Most millionaires and billionaires and World leaders did not need laptops to attain positions of power, success and influence.

An impression being created here that laptops are the best creation tools, and that users have the right to greater control on them. MacOS, iOS, Windows and Android are just extensions of each other. In a continually connected device ecosystem, there is a false perception of power and control in the writer's mind about using a Laptop.

I certainly think that laptops have better software and interfaces for some types of work. But, Capcut mobile is earier to use and more powerful in the hands of the 99.9% than any desktop editing tool.

What we must remember, is that where once the limitation to productivity was typing, or clicking, LLMs and AI assisted tasks are going to afford mobile users the power that was once only available to computer users. For example, who needs to edit chunks of code when bitrig or cursor mobile (early in their stages of company development) do the laborious work for you. The limitation of mobile devices is now only one of perception.
