  1. I am tired of apps with 400mb weight. It's almost the same as windows 2000 or two times more then win98 os. With tauri they could get rid at least 200mb of electon and use system builtin browser.
  2. Why new apps still using electron, instead of tauri?
  3. expected to have confetti at the end. nice puzzle
  4. I was writing comment explaining how we can use new browser API's to get rid of SPA for 30 minutes.

Accidentally pressed F5 and all my message text disappeared in void. The same way it happened 15 years ago, same now, browsers not improved.

That's why we do SPA, we want reusable text input component out of box which automatically saves user generated content in forms on typing.

  5. I can't agree more. Unity was a good way to do games because it provided visual editor and unified API between all platforms including mobile if you use unity only as a renderer, it's pretty good and stable.

The only problem, to use unity with comfort, you need to code some base for networking, asset loading, bundle management, caching, localization, visual scripting, and UI (using NGUI and happy with it). It's the way how large companies work with unity (blizzard for example)

Getting rid of all those layers of abstraction stacked over the generation and writing code using modern C/C++ much more satisfying. Especially now, when we have a nice minimalistic cross-platform layer SDL, not to mess with video card/sound directly.

For those who want a slightly higher level OOP API, I want to recommend to try out https://oxygine.org/. It's using modern C++ to provide API similar to MonoGame.

For those who like unity like editor experience I recommend trying https://www.duality2d.net/. It's free, stable, and extremely fast engine width C# scripting similar to the unity MonoBehaiours system.

  6. The same story. I was mac os addict for a long time since 2010 MacBook air and 2012 MacBook pro. They were amazing machines with stable *nix based OS.

But since that time Apple more focused on phones, desktop OS didn't get much better. The only thing they are doing is more and more cloud integration to lock you in the Apple ecosystem. I got tired of that.

Now I prefer to use Regolith Linux, because it's much better for the development to have a Linux system with proper package management, without messing with the brew.

The distro is insanely fast, and you can almost forget about a mouse with i3. It also is really minimalistic, and default settings are really good. I didn't have any urge to change anything.

And it works really great on Thinkpad laptops which have an amazing keyboard. For home, I am using NUC Hades Canyon with last-get desktop i7 processor which a bought for 300$ and you know what, it's at least 2 times fast comparing 2019 MacBook Pro 15'. RIP mac mini. All drivers installed out of the box, even wifi and external sound card works without any notch.

  7. Worst or not, many businesses are using skype. I am use skype for web, to chat with colleagues. Now I am forced to install chrome browser, to use skype.

It could be incompetent team, if they had no FF support at all. But they had and it was working perfect, even better than their hot pile of react native app on linux. But now for some reason they close it, without any explanations.

I guess, they forced to use some "special" proprietary WebRTC layer, for video and audio streaming, which not compatible with FF, and management decided that firefox 10% of users are not worthy to support.

But obviously, they just could not compete honestly, their 4% of browser market is laughable, especially take into consideration their desktop OS share. They have long going plan, to dominate browser market.

Strategy is very simple. If your system browser is chrome based, users would not bother to install chrome. The only competitior is firefox, easily devastated by EEE strategy.

  8. I see a terrifying problem with this approach. It's like the Microsoft strategy of EEE. They exterminate Firefox - the last non-chromium browser. And if it's become a tendency, we will wallow in monobrowser culture dark age again.

It's not obvious for everyone, but Google started to byte FF. I just can't use google search in Firefox properly, they force me to train their artificial intelligence on each search. Google sites are not locked to chrome-based browsers yet, but they work significantly worse, especially youtube on a mediocre machine.

But in reality, Firefox is the much faster browser. I develop very large webgl web assembly unity game (30Mb of code), and Firefox handles with such burden much better, than chrome.

It's like opera crush. To be compatible with the web, they forced to be compatible with chrome bugs and hacks. After a long time mimicking to a Chrome-based browser, they surrendered to darkness and joined the swarm.

Now the last standing browser is under attack of the giant corporation. If we will not protest, they just swallow us and put onto the glossy walled garden.

  9. Now it fully blocked.
  10. I've made comments in the internet only when I was a 16 years old. In a tiny forum community, where everyone known each other. Some weird shitty things happened because of my post on this forum. After this event became lurker, and post extremely rarely, only anonymously on sites like 4chan to ensure my safety from any crazy guy from the internet.
  11. I used already configured template for such setup: https://github.com/AbeHaruhiko/vue-webpack-typescript
