- I ran into the exact same problem few weeks ago too with around 1k partitions but they were small. Ended up adding cronjob to run analyze on the partitioned table (not the partitions!) once a day. I hope this gets fixed in future version of PG.
- This has been my experience too. At the end of each session, i’m left very exhausted mentally without full understanding of what I just did, so I have to review it again.
Coding this way requires an effort that is equal to both designing, coding, and reviewing except the code i review isnt mine. Strange situation.
- I feel the same way. Im on the job market (though still employed) and i can tell you my core skills have degraded since using LLMs last year or so where technical (non leetcode!) interviews are now more challenging to me since i forgot how to make all these small decisions (eg should this be a private class property or public).
I decided to just disable codepilot and keep my skills sharp i know we will be called back to clean up the mess. Reminiscent of offshoring in the 2000s
- In an industry where most people stay for around 2 years (at least pre 2022), people arent even there to see the results of their decisions.
- Do you have any data to compare risk of injuries of powerlifting vs other sports?
- We do Kanban every sprint.
- What does the accumulation of muscle strength have to do with stretching?
- You dont have free healthcare. You pay for it like tech employees in the US do and you probably get worse service. At least there is a chance in the US to make generational wealth for a middle class, but no way in hell in Europe.
- This. Especially if you are in the US, Gracie Academy runs a special training for kids to teach them how to handle bullying (and no, not by choking another kid)
- Oh thats the modus operandi of europeans anyway!
- how exactly is he an ass? He brings in people he likes to talk to. They spit out bullshit sometimes, interesting stuff other times. He happens to record those conversations and make shit ton of money out of them. I'm sure there are far whorse podcasts and content online and on Spotify (a lot of black metal is straight up racist shit yet its on Spotify). Rogan gets shit for being the archetype of everything the left hates.
- You can't stand, not even listening, but having opposed views sharing tenancy in the same software as where your music is?
- > You spend most of your life at work (at least in the US)
Where else in the world people dont spens most of their lives at work?
- This.
I spent plenty of time making sure there is enough documentation and attempting to get feedback on it, the project roadmap, milestones/schedule etc with a team that had almost zero engagement. Once I left, they weren't able to put things together despite a clear todo list of rewiring services to finish the project. it doesn't matter what architecture, amount of documentation, testing, how clean the code is etc, if your team is not engaged and doesn't share the same vision of where the project should go, the project is doomed to fail once you leave.
- I think of big lifts as ones that involve large muscle groups over a long range of motion, so I think of pull ups as assistance or accessory. They help a ton in the main lifts for sure. Do them anyway regardless of category :D
- Big/main lifts (squat, deadlift, overhead press and bench press) + some accessory lifts (either variation of the main with more volume or something different that assists the main lifts) when the schedule allows. I do them heavy. I increment the weight nearly every workout (even by 1-2lbs in upper body lifts). And of course, make sure I move around during the day (it helps with lifting as well)
- Refactor it beyond recognition. Make every milestone so standalone that if the _entire team_ was hit by a bus shit will continue to work. I had the misfortune of walking this path not long ago and the whole project got killed because it was left in a half finished state before the whole original team left it. Months and months of wasted work.
- Where was that? I must have missed it.
- But why does representation of different skin colors matter or ethnicity matters? There are very very few occasions where it does, but in most everyday situations like work, sports etc it really doesn't. I'd rather be classified by an attribute that's relevant to the situation such as skill level or expertise rather than arbitrary attribute like my skin color, why not my height or color of my teeth instead?
The problem i find with RDS (and most other managed Postgres) is that they limit your options for how you want to design your database architecture. For instance, if write consistency is important to you want to support synchronous replication, there is no way to do this in RDS without either Aurora or having the readers in another AZ. The other issue is that you only have access to logical replication, because you don't have access to your WAL archive, so it makes moving off RDS much more difficult.
