  1. I mean forget that, all modern desktop browsers (at least) start with the string 'Mozilla/5.0', still, in a world where Chrome is so dominant.
  2. > unless I guess they routinely index this repo

This sounds like exactly the kind of thing any tech company would do when confronted with a competitive benchmark.

  3. Nokia E61 perfectly aped the blackberry form factor and also had a great keyboard (with f & j nubs). I still fondly remember mine.
  4. What has Pat Mcafee got to do with anything, is he somehow a controversial figure now?
  5. Maybe half this, based on the living room photos I see online is that people have their tv mounted multiple feet too high for comfortable watching.
  6. https://www.justwatch.com/ is my goto wayto find where you can stream something in each country.
  7. But didn't like 99% of people do a dead stop on buying physical media before 4k became a thing?

If there's something truly rare and hard to find, sure I'll watch it in some low-res format, but when it's online in 4k...

  8. I fear Sky and whoever else already has long term exclusive deals for HBO shows across the EU will continue to make things a mess.
  9. I don't see what Netflix's play is here.

If you're in the netflix app, they're happy.

AppleTV integration just effectively adds more homescreen shortcuts taking you back into Netflix e.g. from the AppleTV app 'continue watching' menu.

  10. What infra needs to be integrated? They just get the rights, add the movies and shows to the Netflix CDN, turn off whatever b.s. infrastructure Warner were previously operating.
  11. They've had some moments of greatness.

Patriot is absolutely up there with any TV ever, though quite different to any of their other originals.

  12. You've never heard of google search (with AI), gmail (with ai), google maps (with ai). Not to mention that most android devices come with google-ified apps that are at worst a click away from Google AI being on the device, in many cases the AI search app is bundled.

No clue how many google smart speakers sold either, but not reason to think it's lower than homepods really, they're 1/3 the price.

  13. For me, when the AI service is operatied by the OS vendor, with root... What is the possible benefit of on device processing?

    * If you trust the OS vendor, why wouldn't you trust them to handle AI queries in a responsible, privacy respecting manner?

    * If you don't trust your OS vendor, you have a bigger problem than just privacy. Stop using it.

What makes people think that on-device processed queries can't be logged and sent off for analysis anyway?

  14. Do netflix still use FreeBSD at some level for their streaming?
  15. We briefly had a reasonably priced, all pro cycling coverage streaming service called GCN plus.

Swallowed by Discovery and then (in the UK) bundled into a 30 GBP a month sports package called TNT that comes with a little bit of premier league football.

Prohibitive and has led many to piracy this year. I only hope whoever eventually wins the race to buy Warner Bros eventually undoes this madness, it could not be worse as a cycling fan.

  16. Based on what culture exactly? Can you name a single Chinese worldwide hit movie or TV show from the last 12 months?

I can think of only Korean Squid Game and a few Japanese anime shows that are somewhat successful.

Do Chinese movies even get distributed into places like India, Africa, South America as US produced stuff does?

  17. I've watched and enjoyed Andor since, but yeah other than that zero star wars movies and TV shows since episode 8. I hear 9 was also hilariously bad, but I'll not ever bother seeing it.
  18. Oh, and I'll see your youtube and Raise you the Discovery Plus app (Maybe UK only?).

The content they offer is either a big back catalog of reality TV dross, or Live sport. The live sport streams, when left open when the AppleTV is turned off will always crash and go into a frozen state where there's no way out except by force quitting the app.

Reported multiple times to their tech support, no fix in 2 years. This for sports services that cost 30GBP a month, minimum, and with a regional monopoly on coverage.

  19. I mean, the biggest appeal of AppleTV is competent, high quality video casting via airplay 2 from a phone or laptop. Easily the least bad way to watch youtube on a TV is with airplay turned on from an iphone (with Youtube premium).
  20. Have you used it recently? It's as fast as any competing browser, has no showstopping problems, has native vertical tab support and is the only place you can still get ublock origin.
