  1. How often do doctors have to prove they can still recall every obscure medical fact when changing hospitals? When a lawyer moves to a new firm, do they have to retake the bar or answer weird hypothetical cases all over again? Aren't their credentials, past cases, and reputation usually enough? Why do we in tech keep forcing experienced professionals to jump through these puzzle-like hoops instead of trusting their track record?
  2. So there is no way to overcome this by installing an unapproved app (unverified, unsigned, etc.)?
  3. If such a law is introduced, will it still be possible to download the application from the website and use iOS sideloading as an alternative scenario? (I'm not talking about the convenience or ease of such a solution)
  4. AMOS was also my first programming language, which I started learning in 1994, having an Amiga 500. I have fond memories of it.
  5. What would happen if there was someone else in the world with exactly the same voice as Scarlett (or very, very similar) and they expressed a desire to work with OpenAI? Would Scarlett still have the right to prohibit its use?
  6. I wonder how many people maintain Gmail...
  7. Web Share Target API (manifest: share_target) - it allows a website to specify itself as a share target. Of course, it's not yet supported on iOS.
  8. Meanwhile, in the parallel universe, they founded a new company with Sam and Greg, and Apple entered the scene as a significant partner or investor.
  9. All official materials should primarily be posted on the original authors' websites and signed using asymmetric cryptography. Furthermore, new open standards should be established to enable the presentation of such signatures/verification on well-known platforms like YouTube, FB, etc. These platforms should always provide a clear reference to the original material along with its digital signature.

For example, when watching a video on YouTube containing a speech by the president (provided on an official channel like the White House's), there should be a clear indication that the video has a digital signature and the option to verify it on an independent government website.

  10. It would be cool if one day you could choose voices of famous characters, like Darth Vader, Bender from Futurama, or Johnny Silverhand (Keanu), instead of the usual boring ones. Copyrights might be a hurdle for this, but perhaps with local instances of assistants, it could become possible.
  11. How this relates to WebSub (previously known as PubSubHubbub)? https://www.w3.org/TR/websub/
  12. A lot of interesting Obsidian videos both for beginners and more advanced users: https://www.youtube.com/@nicolevdh/videos
  13. How do you know that it doesn't contain tracking/analytics without the source code?
  14. I loved reading his blog in the early 00s. Imagine that one day in 2006 I ran "wget --mirror" on nat.org/blog and I still keep the result in my archive folder. I really don't get it why he deleted it.
  15. I got email from Amazon about the $70 off. I have 3rd Generation, bought directly from amazon.com back then.

But according to the Terms: "Offer only valid for invited Amazon customers located in the U.S. who have received this offer directly from Amazon through email."

I don't live in the US and amazon.com refuses to send it to my home address in Europe, but my regional Amazon doesn't accept the promotional code. Bummer.

"To thank you for being one of our earliest customers, we’d like to offer you a promotion code..." Yeah right, a middle finger to you as well.

  16. Quite insightful. Thanks for sharing!
  17. Because: "Fossil, in contrast, puts more emphasis on recording exactly what happened, including all of the messy errors..."
  18. I wonder how they deal with the "bisect" flow? I use git bisect a lot and can't imagine how it would go with every WiP commit... (my answer: an unusable nightmare). Good luck with that.
  19. I learnt C programming and a lot of stuff about UN*X systems from my Amiga 500 and later on a heavily expanded 1200, thanks to a wonderful "Geek Gadgets Version 2" project. I even ran GCC on my Amiga back then. After that, in 2001, I switched entirely to GNU/Linux (RH7) and I knew quite a lot about how to use it since day one, thanks to my wondeful Amiga computer and Geek Gadgets.
  20. Me too. I'd like to have a cheap HA panel in each room. This CutiePi looks promising. I hope HA community will quickly support it and create some nice solutions.
