  1. Would be cute, kinda like MySpace, but I think would detract from the experience if there are people in your area, unless it was always the first one to show up, and only ever when you first open the app
  2. Installed to give it a look, but, sadly, as expected, nobody in my area, and concerts are basically non-existent.
  3. Agreed, and then I thought about using it with OpenSCAD to do insets on some dice boxes as well
  4. Interesting, but I wonder how feasible this actually is. The closest thing I can think of is the ability to selective defederate in things like Mastodon or Lemmy, where the host of your instance can do broad sweeps of moderation by essentially blocking instances that don't fit your instance's stance. The issue is that any moderation past personal blocks amd filters requires leaning against an authority, whether that be algorithmic, democratic, or our traditional style of moderation. And really, that's, in a way, what people want, someone who can handle removing unfavorable content before it gets to you most of the time. I'd love to hear ideas counter to this though.
  5. Also, the open source versions are usually MineTest based, which is less a game, and more an engine that you add mods to to make your minecraft. That's another added layer of complexity to deter beginners, even if more advanced players enjoy the freedom for customization
  6. In my experience, the cost has significantly dropped, it's just that back then they were even more absurdly ridiculous
  7. Pretty bad prompt to take action then, you know, the thing that makes it harder and less likely for you to take action?
  8. Really cool! Sadly, it seems that internal consistency is a bit... weak, but quite a fun concept overall!
  9. People have been running Dolphin on Nvidia Shields since the first one came out in 2015
  10. That's not a requirement to be an organ donor though. Unless you have religious beliefs about the sanctity of an intact corpse, then the only potential harm is wasted resources checking if your organs are viable.
  11. Same here. Let me know if you find a good solution
  12. Past few times I've set up a computer, I've been using Clementine. It's decent, does the job pretty well, and you can add web radio streams as well
  13. In the 3D printer market it has been pretty common to be moving micro SD cards around for that. A few printers use USB A, and there are mods to swap to full size SD cards/internet connectivity for getting your files to your printer, but micro SD was the standard until just recently.
  14. To me, that reads largely as an organizational difference, and one of the few areas that does largely differ. In live theater, everything occurs in order, and especially in more contained plays, props stay where they're left between uses, or there is a scene change, during the time jump within the prop moving doesn't matter. Not so much with movies, so I can definitely grant that difference. However, I think some of this can also put the cart before the horse. In live theater, you really can't enforce your precise vision of the play. Things happen, and actors have to take it into their own hands. Someone drops a line, a glass shatters mid-scene and creates a hazard. That's the delegation a stage director does. A film director though, can re-take most shots, pick the one that matches their vision best, but with that creative control comes that excess cognitive load the quote mentions.
  15. I'd say that most of those things you list film directors needing to worry about are just as important to stage directors, but also, film directors have crew and other experts to fill a lot of those gaps. Directors aren't writing scripts, there are scriptwriter for that, just like playwrights, the director just gets some input, which happens in live theater right now. I know a director who is having to edit the script of Hamlet himself right now due to time constraints. A film director doesn't necessarily need to know everything they just need to be able to vocalize their wants and vision to other people who know more, and be able to receive feedback from that. Also, to my knowledge, directors aren't hiring everyone. They might pick a few key people, but that's why you have producers, and you let your key people pick their people under them.
  16. Well, yes and no. Theoretically, I could create my own sovereign nation on whatever land I want. But if nobody recognizes that sovereignty and applies their laws to that land instead of mine, am I really sovereignty? These reservations exist on land that otherwise is part of the USA. If the government decides not to recognize their sovereignty and say the treaties are void as a result, unless they can mount a resistance, they aren't really sovereign at that point.
  17. It's more location in the good chain than size, and volume of food eaten vs body volume
  18. What is the vertical limit of the park? If I build a ramp and jump off it in a vehicle, at what point in its arc is the vehicle "in the park?"
  19. I'm not sure anymore, but I remember back when I was in middle school, Radio Hyrule was entirely music selected by listeners in a queue, moving random only when it was empty. I believe there were queue limits on users though
  20. Could be a variety of reasons. Maybe they point to geographic north instead of magnetic north, or it could be just simple measurement error when the city was constructed, or a natural feature of the terrain, similar to the Manhattan and Detroit graphs
  21. Not directly. Valetudo exists though, it's a custom firmware you can flash to a lot of different models that is privacy focused.
  22. Also, a kilo of diesel can emit that energy once. A kilo of battery can emit that energy hundreds or even thousands of times
  23. No, actually, it's Fantasia Archive
  24. There's a discord for worldbuilding software that's like this, though, due to the main dev's health issues and the original architecture being relatively weak, such changes have been very delayed, buy it is picking up again now
  25. Another detail I think others might have missed, heat pumps need to defrost sometimes, during which time you effectively can't provide heat. In other words, you need to trust the house to be a good enough thermal battery so that you aren't having to continually heat it
  26. You don't have to work full time. Your spouse makes 85% of what you need? Cool, you can work 15% of the amount of time you otherwise would. And for the person getting the training, that still doesn't affect their cost of living. Training isn't cash in hand. I think it's perfectly reasonable to pick a model citizen and work from there. I'd personally target the living expenses for a single person, living in a studio or 1 bedroom apartment, with the expected average commute for the area, and who is generally healthy. People living outside that situation can choose to work more or less as needed and possible, and people significantly outside that, such as the disabled, or those with children, can qualify for further support.
  27. "All X are Y, and their denial proves it" seems a very poor argument to me. By its very nature you can't really disprove it.
  28. Fair enough. I'll add the bit that they're fine if you don't need the ink to be anything more than short term. Excited to hear how the experiment goes!
  29. I'm personally a Noodler's X-feather fan, but that's mostly because I usually found myself writing on bad paper back in my school days when I got it, and you just get so much of it too
