  1. I can no longer install Jodel, says my device is not compatible (GrapheneOS on Pixel 9).
  2. No need to slipstream. Just copy the drivers to install media (hopefully a writable media such as an USB pen) Latest Windows 11 has an option to select the folder with the drivers of it can't detect a WiFi device and there is no ethernet card.

    That being said, I installed Windows 10 on Framework 12 by mistake and SHIFT+F10, "explorer", right-click on INF and "Install" also worked.

    But on latest Windows 11 installer such witchery is not needed.

  3. He/She meant _searching_ for apps for a functionality in App Store is a sure way to get gobbledygooky apps. He/She probably searches them on $SEARCH_ENGINE and uses the AppStore just for the download.
  4. Seconded. Something was lost want camping was banned.
  5. Don't understand your statement about avoiding client-side scanning of text messages. I've always assumed it would be done by the apps themselves, e.g. WhatsApp, Telegram, etc..
  6. All TV series on Netflix end in S01. Even if they don't, it's a new show with same characters but lousy writing. Looking at

    * The CIA laywer who doesn't know about green passport

    * FUBAR

    * The Diplomat

  8. how do we turn back?
  9. Despite claiming withdrawal, the Danish EU Presidency is attempting to pass legislation requiring AI-powered scanning of private communications.

    Article 4 mandates "preventative" scanning, creating a backdoor for blanket surveillance.

    Critics warn this represents an existential threat to digital privacy in Europe, with the proposal being pushed through with minimal transparency alongside related initiatives like Protect EU and Digital Omnibus IV that would weaken GDPR protections.

  10. Indeed. Conflicting info.

    NOTE: I did NOT read the article.

    If I'd guess I'd say close friendships meaning is now more shallow. Or: younger demographics are against the wider trend.

    We can also extrapolate this to unrelated topics, like friend groups. Granted, completely unscientific. But if you know two or three different friend groups and have a brain cell or two, you'll notice group-member-patterns. The Joker; the athletic; the geek; etc.. The question I'm trying to get to is: will the search for authenticity in a subgroup of a greater acquaintace group push you toward the fringes?

  11. I know this is satire, but there is actually one and one you actually control. May be useful to remember who said what and where. It can be useful. Just not the way a megacorp implements it.

    Here it is [unaffiliated, untested by me, unvetted]: https://github.com/openrecall/openrecall

  12. But solutions? Here's my take, will gladly take input (Android):

    Two profiles: profile 1 has no notifications, reading apps (ebooks) and shouldn't have a browser (mine does and shouldn't); profile 2 has all apps, inclusively all of profile 1 apps. Idea: have an "offline" phone. Good for battery. Whenever I need IoT or something else, I shrug and change profile.

    Use desktop apps/desktop browser: should work. Doesn't much. When I'm on laptop I tend to do terminal stuff, social apps feel like wasting time, do it fast and multitasking mode. Multitasking is not really what I want to train my attention span. Sometimes I turn on notifications but put system notifications in DnD so I can check what's notificated every half an hour or so.

    Use Waydroid to have social apps: should work, never worked.

    Special profiles on social apps: my current social apps have only institutional accounts being followed. Some decorum is kept, and with it, sanity. Exceptions: Facebook, Bluesky, Mastodon, Linkedin, where I follow regular people. But I really should implement something similar for my LinkedIn account.

    Alternate sites/apps/mode of usage: use WhatsApp/Telegram to interact, say hi to some people online on Facebook Messenger, install Discourse; on group chats avoid links or include a short summary written by an human of why people should open your link and a quick "what's on the link" description.

    These are my takes to extract some humanness from my machine mobile phone.

  13. I think he/she was being ironic. You either own it or Apple owns it.

    Since there is no sideload and the criptographic keys belong to Apple, then the device belongs effectively to Apple and you just rent it for a fixed fee.

    You can't both own it and not own it depending on the situation, thus exposing Apple's hypocrisy as a well-intended parentified gatekeeper just protecting the users/childified adult users.

  14. I believe 90% of mean people on the web talking about politics are actually bots.
  15. It uses microG which has its own set of issues, though.
  16. Check Stallman's The Right to Read short story.
  17. I've got various IP subranges categorized by probability of having to block them in the router's firewall.

    Main idea was locking updates to once or twice a year and resort to HomeAssistant.

    It's at 33% execution stage so no idea on the feasibility.

  18. Agree in general. But if I'm really sad my team, which played very well recently but had a disastrous game, lost, you can not be so aggravating like you could be if I had taunted you before yours team sucked (and not in a jest manner, of course). Samething happens on both cases, one deserves less sympathy for my feelings.

    Is this being an empath? Idk. But if we can dial the knob of fun (for us and others) up and the dial of sadness for others (who don't deserve the sadness) a bit down, you're not lying nor faking, just trying to redirect a bit of your happiness for others too feel less bad. Which doesn't mean you can't be a playful ass and say "yah, they had been playing very well, it's kinda a pity. But my team still won. Come on, the winner pays you a beer and the loser pays me another! Wink, wink!"

    My take at least. USA is either regressing or too far along in the future. I'm not sure which.
