  1. This was easy to predict. It also shows how backwards are the UK security bureaucracy as you can simply clone Signal and tweak it, and deploy your own blend. Also, perhaps an LLM can do it as well, what if the prompt is "keep me safe from a totalitarian government"?
  2. I'm probably paranoid though. As always, nothing happens, ever, enter the skeptics.
  3. This one is s-h-a-r-p! Is it just me or does it feel like Kabuki so that that can do 'something' about it, so that the tech lords can get back into the shadows?
  4. Framing it as a choice is pretty rich.
  5. European politicians are great at pretending to do stuff, not newsworthy.
  6. Who shaves the barber then? ;)
  7. jUsT uSE AI, dUh?
  8. This is an ironic post, right? If not, then wow... If yes, then I'm all for it. The sad thing is we live in times I really don't know if you're serious.
  9. Sounds like X nowadays xD
  10. 100% agreed, especially when you print money the GDP is evaluated in, there's no ceiling! What can be bought for money and in what quality, that's a different story... Purchasing Power of Money is what really matters. It's still good in some European countries, but with the current policies, EU has set itself up for times of poverty.
  11. That's a very good observation, thanks!
  12. You're right, just didn't want to impose anything and wanted to open a broad conversation on the subject.
  13. I think they are using the already existing potential, you can cause some effects, sure, but not of this magnitude. No one is ever held responsible, even after truly astonishing and costly failures. At the same time there's that alienating gibberish coming from the other side. It's a natural reaction to reject it, only amplified by opportunistic actors. But hell, we might be looking at the fall of the Republic and the rise of an Empire, perhaps with a Civil War in between, not sure what to make of it yet.
  14. I believe that the agencies have lost the trust of the people. This is what happens under bad and corrupt leadership, e.g. forever wars based on a lie, a person with dementia at the top, a candidate for President with no primaries.

The danger in this situation is that the DOGE will dismantle the safety mechanisms of the state, some of which depend on the state inertia, i.e. it's much harder to execute a coup when there are 4 agencies with overlapping duties.

Time will tell, but it is an end of something for sure IMHO.

  15. Couldn't agree more!
  16. Don't Java my Rust, please... Nor Go for that matter... ;) on a more serious note, we should try of different stuff and adopt what works, not sure Spring approach is worth pasting to Rust.
