- Cosmos by Carl Sagan is my favorite.
Planet Earth and Blue Planet are amazing.
Jodorowsky's Dune is great.
- Make use of HN's whoishiring threads: https://news.ycombinator.com/submitted?id=whoishiring
- There have been only two Bitcoin downtime events, last one in 2013. Its uptime is 99.987%.
- Please try to expand your lists. Also, please try to create the same kind of expanded lists for other such related tech you're comparing Bitcoin with.
- I don't think you understand what Bitcoin has brought to the table. Consider its fundamentals and its network effect. Other blockchain tech, most prominently permissioned blockchains, should be reprobated, since they don't require blockchain tech and could be better implemented using tech that relies on standard database systems.
- No. I got all of my contracting jobs via HN (except the first one, which was a natural transition) and am very grateful for that. All of my clients were / are great, professionally and personally.
- I've always been very honest when logging my hours, that is when I was paid by hour, and back then I was doing 6 hours of effective work per day.
A few months ago I started being payed by month, and now I do around 5 hours of effective work per day. The more relaxed work day due to less effective hours done was something I was looking forward to; I don't drag this mental burden with me the whole day anymore and it feels great.
My friends always say I work more than I should, but doing less always seemed like cheating and stealing to me.
Employees and colleagues value my output, which is encouraging, but hearing my friends' arguments and reading this post and comments makes me feel like I'm missing out.
- My favourite and often used browser feature (Firefox).
- There's a great video on this topic from the Cool Worlds Lab channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7OeeGcMFMc
Taking into account ship ranges and settlement lifetimes produces very different results (15:36 in the video).
- I've done a similar thing few years ago. You can check it out at the bottom of the website at http://138.68.65.145/ (website is old and needs updating, same with the domain). I decided to print the output to the alert popup. I have `clear` and `exit` implemented, and going up/down the command history.

- > The complicated web is here because users insist on interaction
Do they, though? Or is it the product managers who insist on such things? I'd put more weight on them. Some of it might be backed by user data, but generally it feels like they're pushing things unjustifiably or for wrong reasons.

I was pushing myself to do 6 effective work hours a day, which was not always easy (some days I would work throughout the whole day just to accomplish those 6 effective hours).
I was tracking procrastination / break / meal time initially in 5-min and later in 15-min intervals. That was kind of extreme and my friends did not understand why I was being so honest or felt guilty otherwise. In hindsight, they were right.
I suggest you bill by day, or by month if you can. Rather than lowering your rate, consider taking a slightly more relaxed, less stressful approach and don't feel bad about it as long as you deliver. If it'll make you feel better and you think there's no risk involved, consider discussing this openly with your client(s).
