  1. Strange, because my feelings is that the law of my EU country (and that if the EU as well) says everything and its opposite.
  2. This was posted earlier today:

    https://www.danshapiro.com/blog/2025/12/i-made-the-xkcd-impo...

The xkcd comic is from 11 years ago (September 2014).

  3. Cool idea.

It's good to remember that that xkcd is 11 years old (September 24, 2014). The progress we've seen in such a short time is unbelievable.

  4. What struck me is that when I reported an ad with an Elon Musk deepfake selling some crypto scam, I got an email back from Google saying that after reviewing the video they found nothing wrong. I don't understand how this is not actionable in court- I mean, you did act on a report, you declare you manually reviewed the content and that it's good for you? I don't get it.
  5. > Urban VPN is operated by Urban Cyber Security Inc., which is affiliated with BiScience (B.I Science (2009) Ltd.), a data broker company.

    BiScience is an Israeli company.

  6. > I don't remember Israel just arbitrarily blowing up every flotilla headed for Palestine

Just because they were filled with Westerners. They didn't have any trouble with bombing refugee camps and apartment blocks full with Palestinians.

  7. Probably not, because the EU is politically subservient both to the US and to Israel.
  8. > These people have no problem with Facebook, Instagram, et al. being naughty because they profit from it.

Facebook, Instagram are not naughty. They're well embedded in the political economic ruling elite of the country. They amplify or mute whatever messages that elite wants amplified or muted. The US can't make rules for TikTok to do the same because that would be illegal, besides being too obviously partisan.

  9. TikTok is a social media the US don't control. TikTok has content the US don't want the American public to see. It's the same problem.
  10. Completely disagree. Look around, mass protests start and governments fall when banning social media. There are 80 million daily active users of TikTok in the US, Trump would never, ever be so stupid as to piss off 80 million people by suddenly blocking their favourite app. That's the whole reason of this standoff.
  11. That's a cheap whale. I wonder how they managed to fit it in.
  12. Tesla worked as long as it had a technological advantage on its competitors (and when its competitors didn't exist at all). Now that the technology went mainstream and the competition is Chinese (high tech & high quality, much cheaper) there is no reason for consumers to choose an American brand. Also, Musk (at least the one that started Tesla and SpaceX, don't know now) isn't someone who's interested in competing in a mature market. I guess that's also the reason for pivoting to humanoid robots: gives him the type of extreme stimulus he needs to keep going.
  13. And yet Tesla stock keeps going up. Make no sense at all to me. P/E is now 306.
  14. I think it's also a cultural thing... I mean it takes time for companies and professionals to get used to the idea that it makes sense to pay hundreds of dollars per month to use an AI. That that expense (that for some is relatively affordable and for other can be a serious one) actually converts in much higher productivity or quality.
  15. Hey Claude, can you help me categorise the tone/ sentiment of this statement, in three words?

"After everyone has been exposed to the patterns, idioms and mistakes of the parrots only the most determined (or monetarily invested) people are still impressed."

    Claude: Cynical, dismissive, condescending.

  16. > a photocopier also "wins" a philosophical discussion if you put Hegel snippets on it.

I don't think so, have you tried?

  17. Imagine that there's a lot of people who are dismissive even now, when the parrots can write their code or crush them in a philosophical discussion.
  18. CDs are designed to be exactly in the way they are, and you don't get out of them anything more, or different, than what you put in.

Compute and transformers are a substratum, but the stuff that developed on it through training isn't made according to our design.

  19. It only obfuscates it for others :)
