  1. Thanks for this. Read parts 1 and 2 and I wish you could still get a konbini bento for 500 yen ;-;
  2. Mostly Eastern European countries. Some fringe far right groups in Western Europe use Telegram because of a percieved higher level of privacy. If WhatsApp went down for any considerable length of time, countries like Spain would fall apart. I do recall an outage of several hours a couple years back that contributed to a huge spike in Telegram and Signal installs. Then, sadly it went back up and everyone just went back to WhatsApp.
  3. To my horror, the Irish government also uses WhatsApp quite extensively.
  4. Android would still be running Google so I guess it's a risk either way. At least Apple seem to be more secure by default without any user config.

    Looked this up and there is indeed a Russian company called Ayya, making smartphones with a switch to disable the microphone. It'll also be changing from Android to a domestically made OS, it seems. https://www.indiatimes.com/technology/news/russia-ayya-t1-sm...

  5. Curious what mail you switched to? The only competitor from what I can see to proton mail is probs tutanota.
  6. Yes, you understand this correctly.

    One good example is from GReeeeN's 愛唄(Aiuta/ Love Song). It's a song about a guy apologising for all the times he's fought with and been a nuisance to his partner, and reaffirming his love for them.

    「君の選んだ人生「みち」は僕「ここ」よかったのか?」

    Taken as you'd hear it from listening to the song, it means "Are you happy with the road you have chosen?", but reading the lyrics uses different kanji to give it a slightly broader meaning.

    人生 is read as jinsei, meaning life, but the furigana is 道(みち)which is a road or a path, note that this can be a literal road or a more figurative pathway through life.

    僕(boku) is a male pronoun for "me/myself" but ここ means "this" as in "this road, not that one"

    It's not that deep, but it extends the meaning of the lyric to be something like "are you happy to spend the rest of your life with me?" I thought it was kinda clever. There's probably better examples, but this pops into my head often as it's still quite a popular song.

  7. Gave up on DDG after the Microsoft tracker thing, nothing against people still using it, I just couldn't personally trust them now. Objectively speaking, I found Brave Search provides better results with nice features. You can also use SearX to proxy DDG searches.

    It's a shame, DDG are otherwise so user friendly.

  8. I can't speak for any browser integration but I use the app's autofill and it works great.

    Several, I personally like KeePassDX but Keepass2android is also there, possibly others I don't know about.

  9. Session works pretty well on desktop, as well. It doesn't tie to your phone like signal does.
