  1. Would be cool if Framework would sell speakers, a display, trackpad and housing comparable in quality to a MacBook Pro. It would have a high pricetag but you could slowly upgrade your machine. Especially since swapping out speakers or a trackpad is so easy.

Right now the Laptop 13 speaker kit is €20 but they could offer a €150 option that performs similar to a MacBook Pro for people who value sound.

  2. You have roaming but sometimes it’s less data than at home. And you can’t use it for months on end. I have multiple sims from various EU countries. When I visit I top up.
  3. Out of curiosity. It is possible to use a modern Volvo without a Google account?
  4. IKEA is still Swedish despite being incorporated in The Netherlands and having all their "charities" in The Netherlands. For companies of that size, being incorporated somewhere is just an administrative trick to lower taxes. The same way I structured my mortgage to maximise tax returns.

Volvo Cars has been bought by Geely. That is not comparable.

  5. > for the Swedish carmaker

Chinese. Volvo is a fully Chinese company that has some people working for them in Sweden. That does not make Volvo a Swedish carmaker. Zeekr also isn't a Swedish carmaker, despite having an R&D center in Gothenburg.

A friend recently got a steering pump for his classic Volvo 940 and instead of a European part the official Volvo dealership gave him a Chinese part. Broke in a couple of months.

The times that a Volvo would do 500,000 kilometers with basis maintenance is in the past.

  6. I find research like this a bit confusing. "Providing people with unconditional monthly payments improves mental well-being" feels almost self-evident. Most people’s mental health would improve with more financial security. I have a decent income, and even I would feel better with an extra $1,500 a month.
  7. As someone from a place that is less than a century old this sounds incredible!
  8. 2003 is 22 years ago. The events in the game take place 16 years in the past.

I feel nostalgic for Vice City the same way people felt nostalgic for the 80s when the game was released.

  9. Vice City was originally planned as an add-on to GTA III. Development time was 18 months. Incredible that they put out such a great game in so little time.
  10. There are a couple of brands that sell them, that’s what I meant. I prefer bookshelf speakers over a soundbar due to the larger drivers and better stereo separation
  11. > How am I supposed to get the audio to the speakers without a bulky expensive receiver box?

You can have bookshelf speakers with an integrated amplifier and HDMI-ARC. All you need is an HDMI cable between the TV and the speakers.

  12. I had a lot of hobby projects. Some home automation. Some would scrape websites for archival purposes. Maybe a seedbox and an arr-stack. Total monthly cost of a bit over €60 for all of them. Didn't really add anything to my life and the upkeep took about an hour every month, even with auto-updating as much as possible, sometimes things broke or required manual updating (+migration).

None of them were open to the public, I SSH-tunnel into them. All stuff just for myself.

I backed everything up locally and shut them down. They should be auto-removed at the next billing cycle.

  13. I use money.
  14. It was a lot of micro-USB and some Lightning. CAT5E and lower. HDMI 1.4 and lower. All still useable cables for many people. It went to my local hackerspace.
  15. Simplification of my digital self. Removed most of my online accounts. Removed all my VPS's. Removed most apps from my phone except core ones. Cancelled a lot of online subscriptions.

In the real world finally moved everything to USB-C. Gave all my old cables away. I have two chargers in my home and a handful of C to C cables. Everything connects to everything now.

Home is now downgraded to a dumb home. Lights work on physical toggles. No hubs or sensors anywhere. Heat and AC is with a dumb panel on the wall.

    It feels freeing.

  16. I don’t do FXP anymore :)
  17. I have been thinking about it but it is tricky from a legal standpoint. What I'm trying to arrange next time I visit is to have a secondary line installed at my parents place that is in my name. So that when I pull heavy traffic from that line it doesn't impact them and I can't get them in trouble for posting a message that isn't government approved.
