  1. Yep, the only reason their pay is high is artificial barriers to entry.
  2. If you have to be “top talent” to survive it’s not a good field to get into anymore.
  3. It’s matter of incentives. Everyone knows the value of college is in the piece of paper they give you at the end, the things they teach you are not super helpful in real world. So people cheat so they don’t have to waste time learning useless knowledge and instead spend that time on something valuable, like working out or going to a party.
  4. He is a good guy for not selling out but let’s be honest, it’s just a thin wrapper around ffmpeg.
  5. Have to agree. This whole procedure of booking an appointment with a GP who then books you an appointment with a lab who then takes your blood is a huge waste of time. The technology is largely there for people to continuously monitor their health in real time, you see this in smartwatches as feature by feature slowly trickles in.
  6. I’ve had it for days and it’s still slow
  7. Made my phone immediately much laggier (iPhone 13 Pro) which is probably the intention
  8. I thought colleges only had a limited number of slots to accept students each year. Seems like US citizens would be competing with foreign students in that case.
  9. 99% of those students were not any more talented than the average US citizen
  10. Adblockers are a safety risk of their own - you’re giving @gorhill admin-level access to your browser.
  11. It costs $2000? Why?
  12. Most are zero sugar
  13. Really? Where do you see that?
  14. Yeah that sounds like a good idea
  15. Not all dimensions. VSCode’s Remote SSH is better and UI is better. To me that’s worth the trade offs.
  16. People that say this are completely out of touch. You know there are VSCode extensions for Java (made by Oracle and Redhat themselves), right? Once you install that you get Intellisense, debugging, etc. Same with C#, Python, etc.
  17. +1, the Remote SSH is horrible. Takes forever to connect and is extremely laggy once you have connected. Feels like they’re practically streaming video of the UI back to you instead of VSCode’s Remote SSH which feels indistinguishable from running locally.
  18. Austin is down 20%. Doesn’t make sense to me. I keep hearing “they overbuilt” - so what, none of the builders saw this coming either?
  19. How is this legal? I thought you could not use streamed music commercially? If you’re a DJ making money on a gig you’d be violating that law.
  20. Good way to have your knowledge fed into an LLM.
