  1. I was disappointed by their iPhone keyboard offering. I felt like their product was superficially good: fancy adds, fancy web-page, the keyboard looked nice, BUT the functionality was not well thought out. They seemed to not realize that they need to provide a hell of a lot of benefit to warrant making an iPhone - especially a max - bigger and heavier. So, sure, they provided physical qwerty. But, they did not make it easy to bind keys or combos to all/most of the Apple supported shortcuts that a bluetooth keyboard would be able to take advantage of. The result is that even if I liked the qwerty, I still have to take my fingers off of it to touch the damn screen to do basic navigation. With better leadership, they would be a much stronger company.

EDIT: was referring to their first product that is an iphone case plus keyboard (I just noticed they have a new keyboard offering).

  2. Hahaha. Try sharing a couple old printers and scanners connected to a Linux box on your home network. At best, when it’s working you get lowest common denominator functionality. Want to run some vms ? Works great until you update your distro and the vm hosts kernel modules aren’t compatible anymore. Oh, want to use a later version of some package like docker? Did I use apt or snap or flatpack???

Yes, you can get this stuff working, but if you enjoy doing other things in life, have a job and don’t life alone, it is SSSOOOOO much easier to get a Mac mini. Or even windows 11 if that’s your thing.

  3. Happens too often these days. Also, express an unpopular opinion and get downvoted.
  4. We are also lucky a miscalculation didn’t occur during the Cold War resulting in millions of nuked folks. But, not sure what the alternative is. Best idea I’ve heard is for everyone to stop reproducing.
  5. I think we’re already there. Sounds like Obama administration hit jobs.
  6. Riots are going to end predictably badly when those participating do not have guns. Just like a couple years ago other there. Probably a lesson here.
  7. I can't remember windows vista actually making content illegible or reduced the content area in a focused window like Apple has done.
  8. Hurts to even look at this post. Today I pulled up a podcast episode in apple podcasts for Mac and could hardly see the app buttons that got obscured by the window turning black to "match" the episode artwork. When I found the buttons, I could literally not read their labels because they were now black on black. This is just asinine at this point. The design change should have been aborted before it became such a mess that it distracts from fixing all of Apples other problems.
  9. I bet that will convince them to think differently
  10. Whole industry? Just those that don’t mind enabling some rich bigots.
  11. Mass delusions don’t have to make sense.
  12. What was different in the jobs era were the goals and trajectory toward achieving them. The tibook was just a first step.
  13. A person should be judged by a stupid decision they made? I hope you never did anything that wasn't rational.
  14. I think you’re missing some of the point. What will you do when you find yourself stuck in traffic or in an airport security line that takes an hour to advance? Substitute some annoying situation that is beyond your control. If you react by upsetting yourself, then the advice is for you; otherwise, I don’t think you need it.
  15. I’ve gotten a lot out of the writings of Albert Ellis whose work in the 50s and 60s became cognitive behavioral therapy. He would have said that it is irrational to demand that everyday inconveniences not exist, and by changing your thinking to accept and expect that unavoidable inconveniences happen, you will be less likely to allow these things to cause emotional distress.

He credits the ancient stoics and other philosophers for influencing his methods.

  16. I think so. I switched to it because I have YouTube tv - essentially Google as cable tv provider - and noticed how commercials became too correlated with recent Google searches for comfort. The only time I end up switching back to Google is for looking up local businesses reviews.
  17. In the span of like 2 yrs?
  18. Would be nice if they could make a fridge that was simply reliable. I bought one of their fridge’s and couple years later had to do a ridiculous number of mods to the ice maker and fridge that were in the Samsung official service bulletin at the time of purchase. It’s reliable now, but will never buy anything from them again. Many similar models from 2010s had similar issues.
  19. I have trouble communicating with/on any device running KDE since it still doesn't support read-line/emacs bindings like Gnome or Mac OS. Will probably never try KDE again at this point.
