  1. Infinitely, because I wouldn't be bothered to make the things I make without AI.
  2. There are more English words that end in -ass than Latin words that end in -anus, so who's really obsessed?
  3. Probably a screen reader callout.
  4. This is the autopilot one, I thought I saw one about disabling the entire bebjicke vehicle, but I can't find a trace of it.
  5. Yes, this is the justification decisionmakers use to shirk moral responsibility for their decisions.
  6. Regarding the Tesla disabling, maybe he means the fact that Tesla remotely disabled FSD when someone sold their car. I thought I remembered Tesla disabling the vehicle completely, and I distinctly remember aspects of the story (the vehicle wouldn't do more than some low mph and said to pull over), but I can't find any reference to that story now.
  7. Yes but the author lumps all decentralized and/or social networks together when all he really means to talk about is ActivityPub specifically.
  8. Yeah, I think the article conflated a few points: I think the issue the author was having was that he thought that decentralized social networks were meant to be decentralized communication platforms, when they were meant to be decentralized content delivery platforms.

The problem isn't the decentralization, it's the choice of a goal. However, email, IRC, Matrix, etc all already exist, and are what the author wants, so I do see tbe article as a bit misguided.

I think what the author meant to say was "I thought ActivityPub was meant to be more like Matrix, but it's not, and I'm sad about that".

  9. I disagree, if you expect asshole behaviour, you make it the norm. Expect the behaviour you want, and complain when the standard isn't met. That's how you raise the bar.
  10. It's so old, the patent is nearing expiration.
  11. It really helps that the needles are hair-thin and short.
  12. Companies are made of people. Companies only use people if the people who make up the companies are ok with it. Being a decisionmaker in a company doesn't give you carte blanche to behave like an amoral automaton.

So no, MongoDB are assholes for doing this. They could have had some humanity and prioritized human well-being over cost savings.

  13. I got inspired by this the other day and made something related, though user-drawable:

Obviously nowhere near as good as Floor796, but if you like pixel art, maybe you'll like my weekend hack.

  14. I don't understand why you feel the need to judge it. If someone wants to use it, they should use it. Why do you need to understand their reasons, or why do they need to justify it to you?

It literally does not concern you at all what people choose to do privately. Why feel the need to get involved?

  15. > Spammers have been around since forever

Is the fallacy here not obvious? Yes, spammers have been around since forever, but it's not the same amount of spammers. Whether it's two spammers or two million spammers does make a difference.

  16. Imagine "someone two hundred years ago said it was OK" being valid ethical justification.
  17. That doesn't mean it's right, it means the constitution is wrong!

The constitution isn't a holy book, it's some opinions someone wrote down on paper. Some of them might be wrong.

  18. I wrote a small utility that wraps commands in Docker: https://github.com/skorokithakis/dox
