  1. There's certainly a lot more JS code out there to train on, but the quality of the Elixir code is likely overall much better.
  2. You use AI to write your blog?
  3. I don’t understand why people drink orange soda. If you want something orange flavoured, eat an orange! If you want something bubbly, drink soda water!

.ex compiles to beam files to be run later

    .exs compiles to memory

You don’t need to know Erlang to use Elixir; I’m a few years in now and I’ve never had to write any Erlang.

  4. After reading your replies here it seems like your attitude might be a contributing factor in your inability to pass interviews.
  5. Turns out they're lasting much longer than expected: https://news.stanford.edu/stories/2024/12/existing-ev-batter...
  6. 1,000 is way too many. Low hundreds max.
  7. I know why you're doing it; I'm just not sure what I'm looking at. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a product, but right now it's literally just a paginated HTML table?
  8. Not 100% sure what I'm looking at here? Am I missing something or is it just table of data with an "infinite scroll" that loads 200 records at a time?
  9. Original title is clickbait.

"NASA finds another coral-like rock on mars"

  10. > Yeah, the explanation is just shallow enough to seem correct and deceive someone who doesn't grasp really well the subject.

This is the problem with AI in general.

When I ask it about things I already understand, it’s clearly wrong quite often.

When I ask it about something I don’t understand, I have no way to know if its response is right or wrong.

  11. I also have ad-blockers for the same reason. However, if you don't support the people or companies producing the media you consume then don't be surprised when they go out of business.
  12. I never said anything about spying.

Magazines and newspapers were able to by funded by native ads because you couldn't auto-remove ads from their printed media and nobody could clone their content and give it away for free.

  13. I have mixed feelings on this.

Many websites (especially the bigger ones) are just businesses. They pay people to produce content, hopefully make enough ad revenue to make a profit, and repeat. Anything that reproduces their content and steals their views has a direct effect on their income and their ability to stay in business.

Maybe IA should have a way for websites to register to collect payment for lost views or something. I think it’s negligible now, there are likely no websites losing meaningful revenue from people using IA instead, but it might be a way to get better buy in if it were institutionalized.

  14. What’s wrong with that article?

For what it’s worth, I’ve been using Elixir professionally for a few years now and haven’t touched Redis once.

Not sure why telling people they don’t need another service is bad for adoption?

  15. It’s not just one man, it’s also the millions of individuals who voted for him.
  16. We used to take two annual trips to the US, and cross the border every 4-6 weeks to shop, eat, and fill up our gas on the way home.

We haven't been there since this current administration took over, and have no plans on it until something changes.

Trumps comments regarding Canada, and the whole "51st state" rhetoric triggered the decision, but these stories absolutely play a part in it. I'm not about to put myself, or my family, in a position where someone might be detained for anywhere from days to weeks for no reason.

There's a big, beautiful world out there, and plenty of countries who are happy to have us and take our tourist dollars, all without me having to worry about getting detained for silly pictures on my phone. It's a pretty easy decision if you ask me.

  17. It’s both, no? The fittest birds survive so those traits get passed down to future generations.
