  1. i think it's fine, thank these people for coming up with the idea and people are going to start doing this in their basement then releasing it to huggingface
  2. just wanted to disagree with anyone who thinks someone like this needs to go to school

no, he needs to make his own agency

  3. maybe they should have an option to enable it instead? i don't want this being the default
  4. this same problem is one of the side effects of mining for the metals used in things like solar panels

it comes at the sacrifice of many non-western countries and this conversation is never on the table

it's such a shame things that could otherwise last for thousands of years will get destroyed by a few decades of mismanagement

  5. > Many fMRI studies on psychiatric or neurological diseases – from depression to Alzheimer’s – interpret changes in blood flow as a reliable signal of neuronal under- or over-activation. Given the limited validity of such measurements, this must now be reassessed

idk about that, the brain is complicated, blood flow itself may as well be a factor to interpret

  6. DEI and ESG don't work anymore, now people are latching onto AI wherever they can

they're all just marketing scams. if these people actually implement AI in ways that isn't needed it just kills the product

the built-in language translation feature of firefox is great, because it's locally ran

i don't want my browser fetching commands from random servers just to implement AI in a browser that was working fine without it

  7. im happy for this, but there's all these math and science benchmarks, has anyone ever made a communicates-like-a-human benchmark? or an isn't-frustrating-to-talk-with benchmark?
  8. you can google the papers and find the arxiv articles where the authors are listed
  9. this brings us to a cultural divide, westerners would see this as a personal scar, as they consider the integrity of the publishing sphere at large to be held up by the integrity of individuals

i clicked on 4 of those papers, and the pattern i saw was middle-eastern, indian, and chinese names

these are cultures where they think this kind of behavior is actually acceptable, they would assume it's the fault of the journal for accepting the paper. they don't see the loss of reputation to be a personal scar because they instead attribute blame to the game.

some people would say it's racist to understand this, but in my opinion when i was working with people from these cultures there was just no other way to learn to cooperate with them than to understand them, it's an incredibly confusing experience to be working with them until you understand the various differences between your own culture and theirs

  10. yeah it's foolish, the platform should just remain the platform, any attempt at improving engagement should be done by the creators or else this whole system would slowly collapse from frustration and move to a different website
  11. this seems reasonable to me, i don't have schizophrenia but i'm pretty sure i'd start stabbing a fridge if I ever saw it give me an advertisement
  12. wow, that's seriously hilarious

it's so ugly that it shows their desperation, who would ever need this?

  13. it's really just a massive sign of disrespect, clearly there's no one capable of competing with spacex, who is already known for beating deadlines, but they insist on insulting them like this

    why?

"it's 10 years from now and they're behind schedule", what kind of schedule is this?

  14. north makes more sense because it's closer to the direction our solar system is moving
  15. spitting-drink-out-laughing.gif

but how would these airpods really be able to know you're in the EU? this should be easily hackable

  16. maybe this is odd but i just have to ask, do you consider reddit usage to be the sign of a civilized democracy?
  17. i've been using linux for over a decade and had none of these problems on 5 machines that i'd installed it on
  18. for what? there's no one who thinks microsoft's ai is even good, let alone going to compete with companies that are actually serious about this

they sacrifice their few areas of credibility just to make bad ai models that no one uses

  19. they're baked in but there's a community of people who crack and modify them

even chat gpt will help you crack them if you ask it nicely

  20. it's not, HR people are always lazy. i would ask a single chat bot to review every resume/cover letter and suggest the best based on some criteria, i would also ask it to cluster them into generalizable groups so i can review it
