  1. If your goal as a historian is to "tell a better story" then you are not fit to be a historian. You should go find a job as a political hack or maybe federal judge.
  2. For what it's worth, the "fact" Greco-Roman statues were painted garishly was taught in a packed auditorium to me in an art history gen-ed by a PhD. The specific judgement of painted "horribly" wasn't used but it was obviously incredibly ugly.
  3. No, you see the instant a western power interferes with a region, all agency is immediately stripped from every single person there. It's really sad, they all become puppets or automatons reacting purely to external stimulus.
  4. The point of the CVE system is to alert downstream users of security bugs, and giving Linux their own CNA has resulted in a deluge of reports to end downstream users of bugs that are ultimately not security related and in that respect Greg et al have completely failed.
  5. The CVE system isn't great but it's all we have and demanding its destruction because a CNA didn't do their job (just like the Linux CNA, I might add) is childish.
  6. Unfortunately the security community is filled to the brim with incompetent schlubs chasing a paycheck and many of them find their place as trainers. Those who can't do, teach.
  7. The fucked up thing is that they're typically all-in on Apple and either don't notice bugs or blame themselves.
  8. I really wish I lived in the world where Apple didn't ship things until they actually worked, that would be so cool.
  9. The falling behind was shipping a low quality integration.
  10. We used to be a real country ;(
  11. I don't know how to break it to you all, but many of these "diversity efforts" are now categorized as illegal discrimination.
  12. Yeah, that's why I'm drawing conclusions based on what how it's being discussed in real life, social media, this thread, etc.
  13. >And we have been found to be more truthful, better at focusing, can hyperfocus, notice more details than NT's, and plenty more. We're only a disease cause we're the minority.

Yeah and this is why Autism shouldn't be treated as a single condition, even if the cause is the same the outcome is meaningfully different than someone who cannot function.

  14. I disagree completely, the discourse around RFK and "anti-science people" makes it extraordinarily clear that when most people hear "Autism Spectrum Disorder" they think exclusively of common, mild cases where the person has no serious issues existing in society and frequently benefits from their "disorder". They consider discussion of "curing" autism insulting, and challenge the idea that it's a read detriment at all. They do not for a moment think about the more severe cases that require people to have full time caretakers because they are unable to feed themselves.

I can't read the article because of the paywall, but I assume that it is referring the fact that these two extremes need to be treated completely differently and even discussing ASD is made remarkably difficult because these extremes are the same diagnosis.

  15. My perception of AI discussions in HN is that it's typically negative to very cautiously optimistic, I have no clue what the possible astroturfing would be.
  16. The Party is the only Union you need citizen, a Union outside The Party is definitionally a Reactionary, Revisionist, Capitalist, Fascist, Enemy of The State. We outlawed 996, why would you need anyone else?
  17. The entire point of the article is that this timeline is utterly unacceptable, and honestly if you disagree then I don't really care about any of your other opinions.
  18. Did you read the article? The very first example is about taking 4 years to decide which regulatory framework applied to their carbon sequestration process. Does that seem acceptable to you? Again, that wasn't to actually complete the regulatory review to determine that it was safe, that only took 14 months, that 4 years was just arguing over which of three permits applied to them.

It's not "just trust me bro", the entire point of the article is that there are costs to doing nothing that regulators refuse to accept. It's the same thing with drug trials actually, we need testing for very obvious reasons but every day that lifesaving drugs are stuck in testing and review is another day that they aren't saving or improving the lives of patients. There is a tradeoff.

  19. Oh of course, just onshore your entire supply chain. What an obviously easy thing to do.
