  1. Who knows? Might have been a special military operation, right? /s
  2. It's literally in their FAQ: https://www.getmonero.org/get-started/faq/

Anyone curious about how Monero is implemented would immediately understand why it's a bad idea to use remote nodes.

    >What is the difference between a lightweight and a normal wallet?

    >For a lightweight wallet, you give your view key to a node, who scans the blockchain and looks for incoming transactions to your account on your behalf. This node will know when you receive money, but it will not know how much you receive, who you received it from, or who you are sending money to. Depending on your wallet software, you may be able to use a node you control to avoid privacy leaks. For more privacy, use a normal wallet, which can be used with your own node.

  3. I really hate that the desktop app unlinks after a relatively short period of time. I rarely use Signal, so few of my friends are there, so I have to relink the desktop app almost every time I open it. I wouldn't mind scanning a qr code every now and then, but then the history refuses to sync because security. So far I haven't find how to change it.

The Android app is stable enough, but the UX of having to look at the phone while typing a reply on a normal keyboard is annoying. This is why I prefer Telegram every time.

  4. Which is pretty odd as WhatsApp allegedly uses the very same E2E encryption and has no problem implementing a web client. I really don't see the point of Electron if it doesn't allow you to provide a web client.
  5. ... by using your own glasses with a hidden camera? Sounds like a good guy with a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun.
  6. Equally there are security concerns having sites inside the US.
  7. You can't possibly have the same recommendation for all geographies. Florida and Scotland have somewhat different level of UVB especially throughout the winter, come on.
  8. I think we can clear the backlog real quick if we use LLM-As-A-Judge =)
  9. Perhaps they just don't care enough? I got unsupervised internet access when I was 10 and I don't see what's wrong with that. Similarly, video games didn't make me a psycho.
  10. Do you also support a blanket ban of CCTV in public spaces? I am pretty sure that the bank had a camera in the ATM recording a public pavement 24/7 and nobody bats an eye.
  11. It's obvious, but the problem was that enough people would die in the process for people to be worried. Similarly, if the current AI will be able to replace 99% of devs in 5-10 years (or even worse, most white collar jobs) and flatten out there without becoming a godlike AGI, it will still have enormous implications for the economy.
  12. That is easy to solve though. If Apple/Google become essentially an utility, they are legally mandated to provide an account for any EU citizen =)
  13. Yeah, right. Just one step from "Based on your comments about recent political events you are engaging into a thought crime. A police officer will join this conversation shortly".
  14. Are you implying that Google is unable to distinguish whether a screenshot is triggered via a combination of hardware buttons vs via a software call from another app that isn't even on the foreground in their own ecosystem? That's a quite sad state of affairs, isn't it?
  15. Is it really a side effect though? I think the entire point of these sanctions (or their implementation by Linux Foundation more specifically) is to prevent developers working for Russian companies from contributing to Linux. It isn't a side effect, it's the intended effect, wouldn't you say so?
  16. English isn't his native language? Perhaps that's why
  17. Homeopathy is a good example. For an uneducated person it sounds convincing enough and yes, there are doctors prescribing homeopathic pills. I am still fascinated it still exists.
  18. That's a great point. Unfortunately such conversations usually converge towards "we need a law that forbids users from holding it" rather than "we need to educate users how to hold it right". Like we did with LSD.
  19. You are saying this as if people (yes, including therapists) don't do this. Correctly configured LLM not only easily argues with you, but also provides a glimpse into an emotional reality of people who are not at all like you. Does it "stroke your ego" as well? Absolutely. Just correct for this.
  20. do you really think that an architecture that struggles to count r in strawberry is a good choice for proofreading? It perceives words very differently from us.
  21. 34. I am programming since the age of 13. Still love it <3
  22. How is it different from the cloud? Plenty startups store their code on github, run prod on aws, and keep all communications on gmail anyway. What's so different about LLMs?
  23. How do they convince themselves that other people have intelligence too?
  24. You probably need to stop thinking the world outside of the US doesn't exist mate.
  25. Many music instruments are a lot like vim/emacs. You could make it simpler, but flexibility is the selling point.
  26. What is PLU?
  27. Do their opinions matter at all? If you do get locked up, will you find this information helpful?
  28. Legal trouble for sexuality and violence? I am sorry, in what jurisdiction are their servers? Iran or North Korea?
  29. What is the point of not including VAT? You still have to pay it. It is not like you move across the continent just to pay a few percents less.
