  1. No I get that, it's just not for me that's all.
  2. Never got that, I have plenty of "puzzles" to solve in work and life which have real outcomes. I guess Im too utilitarian to enjoy puzzles with ROI.
  3. Not a fan of these "Coding for fun" things. Code for a job to earn money, yes, a side project where there is an end goal, yes. This seems like a waste of time for working developer.

Maybe it's useful for people trying to learn but also becoming pointless now as all Junior dev roles can be done with AI.

I mean do plumbers have an advent of plumbing where they try and unblock shit filled toilets for fun?

  4. 10x to 100x and order of magnitude is a factor of 10.
  5. Scaling got us here and it wasn't obvious that it would produce the results we have now, so who's to say sentience won't emerge from scaling another few orders of magnitude?

Of course there will always be research to squeeze more out of the compute, improving efficiency and perhaps make breakthroughs.

  6. Another google product, there are too many and which ones will be around in a year or two?
  7. Why is Grok 4.1 not in the benchmarks?
  8. There is zero business sense in making it work as good on non Apple phones. There are plenty of other headphones to choose from that work well with android etc.
  9. Well people will vote with their mouse clicks, and they have, < 1% of devs use Emacs vs VS Code which is probably 20-30x.
  10. The data shows VS Code is used by double digit % of developers, whereas Emacs is less than 1%, I think that qualifies for most.
  11. This, most people that try and use these legacy editors spend most of their time configuring it get it to be as good as vs code and usually fail. A lot of wasted time and frustration when one click gives you a perfectly modern fast editor with a smorgasbord of great extensions that just work. I do use vim for quick editing of files in the terminal but never for serious work.
  12. A lot of Apple products are designed to best work with other Apple products, that's part of their selling point. Would it not be easier to just buy non Apple headphones if you are not in the Apple eco system?
  13. This isn't just first to market it's been 10 years and SpaceX is still innovating. I applaud Bezos for at least offering some sort of competition though it will keep SpaceX from becoming complacent.
  14. NASA never created rapidly reusable rockets, which is what we are talking about here.
  15. Then people can downvote AI slop or Human slop equally. Why do we need to discriminate against digital intelligence which is often leagues above the average mouth breathing Joe.
  16. I think this is more like the Fire phone vs the iPhone.
  17. What about human slop? start with HN a significant number of comments are pretty dire.
