  1. I know contract prices are not set in stone. But if there’s one company that probably has their contract prices set for some time in the future, that company is Apple, so I don’t think they will be giving up their margins anytime soon.
  2. I mean, North American Marlon Brando Look-Alikes are not that bad.
  3. How's the battery on your 13 Mini? Mine is abhorrent compared to a few weeks ago.
  4. I regret upgrading my 13 Mini so much. Performance is terrible and it's chugging power.

Yesterday, for the first time since I bought the phone, it died on me before 18:00 with regular usage. I used to charge everyday when I go to bed with around 15-25% left, now I can't even finish the work day.

  5. 13 Mini here, and yesterday for the first time since I bought, the battery died on me in the middle of the day, in the office, with my regular usage (which is very low).
  6. Great guide, but I disagree on the firewall settings, specially using Hetzner. If you only need this simple configuration, their firewall solution is more than enough, and do a great job "outsourcing" the problem.

If you want to get a bit more fancy than just using their panel for it, you can configure via API: https://docs.hetzner.cloud/reference/cloud#firewalls

Does anyone have objections against Hetzner's firewall solution that I'm not aware of?

  7. It’s all about the VAT collection. I order frequently from Amazon Japan. They add the 25% VAT directly at the moment of purchase and deliver by DHL to Denmark without any extra handling fees. So it’s not about china, but about the company doing the paperwork required for the VAT collection instead of you doing.

And by you I mean PostNord in the case of Denmark

  8. That’s all true, but you are leaving out an important piece of information that, at least for AliExpress, the VAT is already included in the price and there’s no additional customs processing fee.
  9. can you link it? The only relevant searches are related to adblock whitelisting.
  10. Off-topic:

Checked out the N++ repo, and saw it's got 2.1k open issues and 7.2k closed ones, and this is from an org that seems to be just one or two devs. How's that even sustainable?

I've got zero experience in maintaining big open-source projects, but those numbers would freak me out, to say the least. Way past what I'd call manageable.

  11. I'm speechless; I never thought I would feel this sad for a person whom I've never met, not even sent a message or an email. I don't even know his face, and yet, the impact of his work on my life is so immense that it feels like sailing at night, and then the lighthouse suddenly goes dark. RIP.
  12. Thanks, that solved the issue. For some reason I always forget that reader mode is a thing, specially on mobile where they are even more effective.
  13. Sadly I cannot read this website on mobile (safari on an iPhone mini), both margins are cutting a few characters.
  14. I’ve never claimed perfection. But comparing the city to the whole country is disingenuous at best.

Rotterdam is the polar opposite to Amsterdam in terms of mobility and freedom from car dependency.

  15. Odense in Denmark, 200k. Good public transportation, never needed a car when visiting it. Roskilde is even smaller 50k and fine to get around walking, biking or by public transportation.
  16. Copenhagen is 600k. Shitty weather year-round, predicting the next point of pro car dependency arguments.
  17. Oh yeah. I forgot that the USA operate by another set of rules than the rest of humanity.

What is your point even? Population? Sprawl?

  18. What you say isn't possible is being done with the greatest amount of success in Amsterdam, great success in Copenhagen, and it's picking up steam now in Paris. Just to mention a few.

It's a gradual process, and part of the problem is actually embedded on your analogy, it's not like perform a heart and artery transplant, because there's no single action that can solve the problem, but years, and years of multiple, small and large initiatives, to make car dependency goes down.

  19. The thing is. Credit cards may be in favor of the customer in the US, or maybe EU (I’ve never had a credit card while living in the EU so I really don’t know) but where I used to live, Brazil, the customer has always the burden of proof that something is wrong. One time my card was “cloned” and I had to go to court to remove the debt from my name. And I’ll never forget the reply that I got over and over from multiple levels of customer service: “we can’t do anything if you don’t provide the receipt of the purchase”
