  1. also given the psychology field research replication crisis, I would wait to see if this research can be replicated down the road.
  2. i dont see dotcom technologies replacing droves of workers and creating panics in /r/screenwriters, /r/3dmodelers etc. The displacement is real and we are not going back. Dotcom tech created fake problems so their 'advance technology solution' can be presented as solution. With AI wave, it's the opposite - business heads are actually thinking 'what other real problems can i solve with AI'. OpenAi and Claude don't even have to do any preaching. That's real value.
  3. because if you say it out loud in front of people it makes it true-er!
  4. reminds me of Jim Simons of Renaissance advise when it comes to data science - sort first, then regress.
  5. personal favorite of mine - I want to switch data api but I dont have time to port 2 different services so here's their documentation. BAM. Done.
  6. i just hashout out the details with claude. apparently it would cost me ~8k USD to retrieve all Taipei street images from gmap api with 3m density. Expensive, but not impossible.
  7. been using it on a plane for the past one month. it's a great way to do some light reading and learning about obscure topics.

dig @ch.at "why is gua musang the king of durian" TXT +short

  8. I am gonna blame your OCD for the malfunctioned sarcasm detector.
  9. eh depending on what he means by 'specific set of criteria'. The vol might be lower than benchmark (i doubt it since they are pennystocks)

Pretty sure OP sharpe ratio is higher than benchmark for the last two months.

  10. me too. and they are pushing new updates everyday. If you are a emacs/vim user claude code is really pushing what's possible with a terminal app (the loading text, custom command, auto cursor refresh)
  11. not just children. just go to testosterone sub and we have been getting weekly posts from 16-18 years old looking to inject due to tik tok gym bros. They are literally destroying their body.
  12. It's not just the cutting edge node. Arizona chips will still be shipped back to Taiwan because TSMC only do Fan-out PoP packaging there. This will unlikely change for the next 5 factories. This is a good win win for everyone. Trump gets to parrot jobs back in america slogan, TSMC gets some extra money to scale out production to 64% of their revenue customer (US based) and Taiwan gets to keep what is really, really important.
  13. Having been in Taiwan for 10 years, comments like these totally ignore the differences in personal traits and 誠信 between Terry Guo and Morris Chang. TSMC and the entire upper management is build differently than Foxconn. After all, Arizona factory is about to be up and running no?
  14. I also dont get how this is bearish for NVDA. Before this, small to mid companies would give up on finetuning their own model because openai is just so much better and cheaper. Now deepseek SOTA model gives them much better quality baseline model to train on. Wouldn't more people want to RAG on top of deepseek? or some startups accountant would run the numbers and figures we can just inference the shit out of deepseek locally and in the long run we still come out ahead of using oenai api.

Either way that means a lot more NVDA hardware being sold. You still need CUDAs as rocm is still not there yet. In fact NVDA needs to churn out more CUDAs than ever.

  15. and probably bump fist with Jesus on your way to the parking lot!
  16. even their CEO from Singapore is a puppet hire. The one that went to all the senate hearing is not the one calling all the shots. He was hired just so bytedance can keep playing the soundbite 'our ceo is not from china'.
  17. it eats into all NVDA consumer-facing clients no? I can see why openai and etc are looking for alternative hardware solution to train their next model.
  18. i live in nyc. i reread this twice and still don't understand what he is trying to say.
  19. you are heading the right direction. It's amazing to see seasoned engineers go through the mental gymnastic of justifying installing all those dependencies and arguing about vector db choices when the data fit in ram and the swiss knife is right there: np.array
  20. ditto. if it fits in the ram, file types don't matter.
  21. not to mention every not-so-serious, inference heavy ML developers just want something to work to deliver to client. That itself is a semi-moat.
  22. it's like all the current gaga over RAG and vector dbs when the real ones just use numpy to prototype
  23. having spent extensive amount of time in both countries for the last 10 years, this is just categorically not true.

Miles worse? Nah. At worst, on par maybe.

  24. Snakes on the plane is a classic and I will fight anyone who says otherwise!
  25. but thanks to Epic court case Spotify can now put a big fat banner on their app that says 'go to this link to subscribe to Spotify premium'.
  26. > The moment you add an aspect of culture and social pressure... yep I personally think gender reveal, 21st birthday all out party and easter egg are senseless but here we are
  27. yep. Figma's 'workflow' has become an api in itself. In order to compete everyone has to match the flow
  28. I read andrew roberts napoleon front and back three times and I still love the new movie. must be the odd one out.

then again I love gladiator and walked into that one knowing it's not gonna be a real representation of historical accuracy. i am always curious what other folks interpretation of Napoleon (and other rome emperors for that matter) and it's very interesting to see this is what Ridley thinks of him. Definitely a new perspective worth dinner table chat.

  29. good god he built this, it's his channel so he can video it however he wants. i dont understand the point of this comment. why are you questioning the video length and supposedly intention behind it? just skip it or don't watch.
