  1. I think this concept is an exercise in fantasy. There’s simply no such thing as a free market. Why we single out subsidy as non free is arbitrary. What activities constitute legitimate free market behavior? There’s no actual logically sound distinction. The real distinction is “what we do is free market and what our opponents do is not”
  2. My friend, what is so special about the government? If a company uses its massive profits in one area to crus competition by selling at a loss in another area, this is the free market, and when a government does it it is something else? I think you have not thought this through
  3. I bet you can’t name a single company that doesn’t perform some critical function at a loss.
  4. How about “loss leader”? Ever use napkins at a diner? Buy Costco chicken? I think you are repeating things you were taught but they aren’t true
  5. We’re talking about China subsidizing goods that it sells in another country. This is bread and butter “free market” behavior. Literally every company in the world does this one way or another.
  6. I’m not hearing an argument, and I won’t be thinking one up for you. Seems like only a difference of degree to me.
  7. Lol, how is this not a free market? Apple subsidizes dozens of organizations internally to advance its strategic interests, what’s the difference?
  8. This is an unambiguous good. Why do you sound so bitter about it?
  9. Does anyone know of cool things built with fdb? I’ve been aware of it for a while and it seems very cool but I haven’t seen a lot of details about how folks are using it.
  10. What has surprise got to do with it?
  11. Yes you are. If you’re arguing in good faith then you should try to answer this question:

How far does it have to go before you assume malice? Do they have to tell you “I am malicious”? And if someone malicious is using the “dont admit it” strategy are you fucked?

  12. Businesses can value quality in cost centers because it can bring costs down
  13. Very curious what you’re working on now, if you’re willing to share
  14. The “they” here disclaims the responsibility of the soldiers (despite the rest of your post advocating that responsibility). The problem is inside us.
  15. This is so sad! It seems Go is fast becoming rudderless, i worry the wualities that have made it great wont survive the tides at google this way. But i hope to be wrong.
  16. Are we sure they’re not giving the donors exactly what they want?
  17. Because, not despite. Let no good deed go unpunished.
  18. I’d like to get out while I can, but to what country? Any suggestions?

By the way the answer to your question is simple: the American people are fascists, not just the president.

  19. As loathe as you may be to admit it, there is such a thing as truth. Both sides claiming something doesn’t mean both sides claims are true (or conversely that neither sides claim is true).

You don’t seem to be thinking very well.

  20. You haven’t contested the substance of the argument at all. It’s as though you agree.
  21. Sorry but this is a shit definition.

You’ve defined scamming people, a totally voluntary error, as creative not extractive.

You’ve also defined building roads as extractive not creative.

I think you’re latching onto some very misguided principles.

  22. Money and value are different things.
  23. I think we intend awful things all the time, without realizing it. To get at what the intentions are here you might ask things like:

    * why this particular error and no other? The bug could’ve been that the content becomes particularly happy or cheery

    * why a bug in the content at all? You don’t see bugs generally on Instagram, they are immensely careful about operations. How could something like this slip through? (Why are safeguards not prioritized)

  24. What about internships for motivated data science grad students?
  25. So the outcomes are even now?
  26. I think we should hold ourselves to a higher standard than this. I don’t see why we couldn’t apply reasoning to this question just like any other.
  27. True, she was a party of billionaires that want to burn it all down more slowly. GOP-lite, as they say.
