- neuralRiotI can see this as a good business move for Anthropic in this case but for the vending machine manufacturers/ operators what would the advantage be besides saying that their machine is AI operated?
- >People don't buy cheap junk because they don't value quality. They buy it primarily because of affordability reasons, or because their focus is forced to be elsewhere.
The focus, thanks to years of advertising, is shifted towards features, new features sell, quality doesn’t, so to keep the price point and “innovate” manufacturers need to lower the quality knowing that a new version will replace the device soon, most consumers see this as normal so when a poorly designed and cheaply made thing for what there’s no replacement parts , no repair info, no software/ firmware fails is just an excuse to purchase the new shiny iteration with all the the bells and whistles (and AI!, copilot toaster!) wich is gonna last les than the previous one but now needs an “app” an activation and a subscription for the premium features .
- When I was a teenager (that was a while ago) the addiction and social dangers where different, my mother (she raised us almost by herself alone) never “forbid” me to anything, just explained us what was what and what could be the consequences. Do not expect the government do the parenting, be a good strong and loving parent and trust your kids.
- I also work in this field, and I feel manufacturers like to exaggerate the dangers as a liability umbrella, aside of disassembling the battery itself it’s very hard to even access the HV components in a dangerous way, every HV connector has an interlocking line that opens the battery internal contactor so other than hacking the HV line with a saw I don’t see how you could “touch” the live wires.
- I hardly doubt a low tire will mean a death sentence, usually you can tell when a tire is too low way before it is a problem, same as many things in the car, just pay attention to it and you’ll know when something is “off”.
- >CGI and Photoshop filters were 'fake' too. Until they weren't.
IMHO they still are, watch any old movie with practical effects (Aliens, Star Wars, just to name 2) and compare them to any 2025 production, green screen movies might look spectacular but they look fake, flat and boring.
- As an electronic tech I find myself hoarding discarded devices because sometimes I need some part and ordering means paying shipping and 4 day (if I am lucky) waiting to get a part that costs cents just to probably find out that I need more parts.
- Why would anyone buy an “ad capable fridge” on the first place is beyond me.
- Perhaps because Apple never “promised” to be open, Google instead built itself by playing the good guy and started to switch when money called so those who chose them for that reason feel betrayed.
- I think sexuality is a too complex issue to get a consensus in a handful of posts, but to me no amount of regulation, if you want, can modify personal perception, you can take places where burkas are law as an example. If you feel sexualized (we all are at some point) in a locker room you will do so in any space with extrangers. This I believe is a result of the loss of social interaction of our times.
- Yeah! We want V8s and powder, we want diesel fumes and school shootings in our land of the freee just as God intended it to be.
- Or use Rufus to create the install media, it will ask you what mods you want applied, after installing run win11 debloater, it will ask you what mods you want to apply. Then if you’re a sane person that just doesn’t want to learn to navigate your OS with every update, install openshell.
- Absolutely, but I don’t believe the responsibility falls in the hands of those looking to make a profit but rather into of those in charge of regulating how those profits should be made, after all thieves want to make a profit too but we don’t allow them to, at least not if it’s not a couple of millions.
- I think I’ve said this too many times already but the core problem here and with the “AI craze” is that nobody realy wants to solve problems, what they want is a marketable product and AI seems to be the magic wrench that fits in all the nuts and since most of the people doesn’t really knows how it works and what are its limitations the happily buy the “magic dust”.
- Another problem is that “crime” is a very flexible term and when you have a hammer everything looks like a nail. Also the legal system specially in the US likes to equate convictions with solved cases which is not always the same.
- In 2024 4 deaths by shark bite were registered globally and 700000 deaths from heart diseases in the US alone, yet we don’t have a “hearth week” on Discovery channel. Fear sells.
- I’m going on a limb here because i’m not directly on the software industry but my first suspect would be metrics and the fact that you have to deliver a product at certain time “no matter what”.
- Even iPhones and windows let you schedule update times. Just the fact that a freaking MOVING MACHINE doesn’t is egregious on itself. Imagine if stellantis would manufacture industrial equipment or nuclear reactors!
- Most people has been convinced throughout the years that individual actions have no effect on big corps, they need to learn that it shouldn’t matter. If you don’t agree with what a service or product provider does simply don’t buy their product find an alternative or just don’t but do it just for your own principles.
- At risk of sounding like “old man yelling at clouds” I feel more and more tech-phobic by the day, sure we have amazing things and quality of life improvements thanks to it but it feels like we are giving up too much of ourselves just for a little perceived convenience. I personally love doing things the “hard way” because for every layer of automation on your life you surrender one of control as well, the hardest part is knowing where to draw the line.
