  1. What are "4fs"? Is that the "4X" e.g. games where you eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate?
  2. https://americabydesign.gov/

    Design is separate but equal.

  3. > This is President Trump going bigger than President Nixon.

    You don't say...

  4. https://kagi.com/search?q=Pesticide

    > Pesticides are substances that are used to control pests. They include herbicides, insecticides, nematicides, fungicides, and many others (see table). The most common of these are herbicides, which account for approximately 50% of all pesticide use globally.[0]

You're trying to be pedantic, but you're actually wrong. If you think about it, from the perspective of anyone trying to raise crops, weeds are pests. (They are pests to lots of non-farmers, too.)

    Similarly...

    > A pest is any organism harmful to humans or human concerns. The term is particularly used for creatures that damage crops, livestock, and forestry or cause a nuisance to people, especially in their homes.

    > Plants may be considered pests, for example, if they are invasive species or weeds.

  5. Ha, yes a bit! Not interrupting or talking over someone was drilled into me in childhood, but exposure to different family dynamics helped me learn that it's not a universal value, and that I can adapt and adjust my communication styles for different groups and situations.

That's still a bit of a struggle to push myself to "speak out of turn" and ensure my voice is included in a discussion.

  6. Eh my (anemic) work laptop from 2019 probably won't get replaced for an extra year because my employer won't authorize the big laptop order at inflated prices.
  7. I often feel like a "giver" in conversations, asking all the questions but never being given opportunities to share my own stories or viewpoint...

I seek and value friends that DO ask about me, and then try to remind myself to not take it for granted, and return the favor to them!

This gives some additional lens, though, to be flexible with "takers" and give them credit for putting themselves out there.

  8. No "average founder" exists, but the mathematical average of founder ages does!
  9. Is "slash" (/) before or after "space" ( ) ... or both... before and after it?

Is 8 before or after 4 in the alphabet?

  10. If the software has the same library as your phone, then I could why you see it as on par.

Android Automotive has a much smaller library than Android Auto, so the selection for audio apps, such as podcasts and music, are much more limited. The options for map software is smaller too. Also Android Automotive doesn't necessarily use your phone's existing internet connection. Depending on the maker, you have to subscribe to a separate data plan.

  11. I feel this way with Android's keyboards, too.

I still feel the pinnacle was ~2011 Windows Phone. It was some kind of swipe-to-type, but maybe not Swype specifically? At any rate, it seemed to use "how humans actually talk" as a guideline, because it was do a great job of predicting what words I would actually mean to use in a row.

Modern keyboards are like, I know you just said "I want" but instead of predicting "to" I predict "rip". I mean the letters are close. And "I want rip" makes way more sense than "I want to." You're welcome!

  12. What does POSD stand for?
  13. Fern Gully was 1992, three years before Pocahontas.
  14. Firefox, Windows 11.

It loads, I can navigate (drag), and click the white diamonds.

There are things like the RC truck and bowling ball that are not interactive and look like they should be, so I suspect it's a bug?

EDIT: OK it's a learning curve. With mouse/keyboard, you can click the hamburger icon in the top right, and get to an explanation of controls. I am able to use WADS to drive the truck and push the bowling ball (with the truck.)

  16. I'm continually blown away that the modern titans of industry readily bow down to the president of the United States.

While I don't think "corporations should be in charge", I also don't think a President should be dictating corporate culture or policy short of going through the proper channels of using Congress to write legislation that keeps corporations in check and doesn't allow their power and influence to grow too large.

But... uh... yeah that isn't happening either. Instead, those in power are helping each other out, at the expense of common citizens of the U.S. (and likely at the expense of people outside the U.S. too.)

  17. I found the name of that photographer (RIP), who lives in Florida and who taught. Also has a thing about quantity over quality. But his own site didn't specifically mention this anecdote. I've also read the pottery one.

I'd love to know if either are real and verifiable.

The lesson is most likely real and applicable either way.

  18. The vaccine was not tested on people that were already dead.
  19. Constructive feedback on current state:

    - many recipe sites let you check/uncheck things you want to print. I'd love to print just [ name, ingredients, instructions ] without [ photo, metadata/servings/nutrition/etc. ]. I much prefer one page recipes to two pages.

    - on desktop, some text-break like "6 servings" breaks to 2 lines
