  1. Aside; If the months are correct, the birthday is very easy to guess.
  2. And how do I find ICP?

I know the niche I am targeting. I have only found one subreddit for that crowd, and they had very draconian rules.

  3. But how fast will we run out of usage limits?
  4. LLMs are like children; telling them to not do something puts the idea in their 'head'.

Instead, telling them to do the opposite works. "Brevity is appreaciated", or "Preserve Tokens and be concise."

  5. Your presumptions are not always obvious to the rest of the world.
  6. > The fact that your comment appears to defend the US position, by virtue of attacking a press release from a major non-US competitor by questioning its source.

It only appears that way because you see the world through a simplistic bipolar lens.

  7. Well if it is real, we will surely see out Claude Code limits go back up.
  8. It is owned buy AliBaba.

Can anybody independently verify any of this?

  9. I do. I don't know what gave people the impression that I was born an American and went to their schools. In "open societies" like the US, the form information control are rather sophisticated, but they are there. However, I grew up in a one TV channel country. I learned to never trust the news. This immunizes me from state propaganda a little bit.

I think I was more referring to general abundance of credulity that is thrown at all AI stories at HN. There are a lot of skeptics when an Ed Zitron blog is shared. But every time a "ChatGPT was worried about being shut down" story is shared, it gets hundreds of upvotes. This story is just as ridiculous. AliBaba claims to reduce usage of equipment from a business that is being banned by their government. Magically. And during a trade war.

  10. Isn't this a policy violation for all the platforms mentioned on your site?

Not that it is not happening, but to be so overt is quite surprising.

  11. Did y'all not read the last sentence?
  12. That is a great respomse to something I did not say.
  13. So we are in agreement, we should not take every thing at face value.
  14. Try navigating the streets of Asia.

I am a firm believer that commuters and pedestrians Urban Asia are suffering from PTSD just by going from point A to point B.

I failed my driving test in the US twice because I kept stopping at green lights. Back home, if you don't do that, you'll die or kill someone.

  15. There is enough reason to believe that police departments do not record crime appropriately. Goodhart's law applies everywhere. If you are tasked with lowering a particular crime in your area, the fastest way to do it is to under-report it. Here is a podcast where a former NYPD officer alleges as such: https://pca.st/jSka

Of course, it applies both ways. We should not trust the reports of violent crime going up in the late pandemic era. The politics of "Defund the Police" suggests that this was a deliberate tactic.

  16. Burying the lede*

    Sorry, just a pet peeve.

  17. This kind of reporting misses one glaring issue; years of life taken away.

16 year olds rarely die of cancer or heart attacks. But they can and do die of homicide. Probability of death at 16, according to SSA[1] is 6/10,000 and the remaining life expectancy in 59 years. School shooting, gang violence, and general homicides take a lot more of life off from people than "old age" diseases.

Though incidence of heart diseases going up in late youth and early adulthood. But they still don't hold a candle to homicides.

  18. The platform that needs to watch this the most is ignoring this
  19. Use your real account michael
  20. The video posits you can't name one Japanese company, but SoftBank is the reason we have Uber.
  21. I mean there is SoftBank.
  22. App blocking does not work. Delete the apps from your phone that you do not need. That usually means "all social media but youtube". Turn off autoplay/autoplay next on Youtube. On desktop, I actually use LeechBlock to even block youtube during work hours. It has a feature that blocks any override for specific sites or sets. If I want to use youtube, I pull it up on my phone. I play the video while putting my phone propped up on the kick stand on its case, next to my laptop.

Seems counter intuitive, and a recipe for distraction. But it works. With autoplay off, you have to manually pick up your phone and select the next video.

Podcast apps are a great replacement for youtube to play in the background. I use Pocket Casts, but I am grandfathered in because I bought it before they went subscription. I can't speak for the free version. If you are Mac/iOS, Apple Podcasts is now very good. It is also available on the web for Windows/Linux. The default option on Android is Youtube Music, which is a disaster. I would recommend Pocket Casts there. The free version can't possibly be worse than this. Pocket Casts is also available on web/desktop so your listening can sync.

I understand that you think you will eventually bypass these barriers, but this belief leads to failure. And the only way to move forward is to believe you can follow through.

  23. It is high time that we accept that the people in power are not sensible. That the world is run by a bunch of apocalyptic death cult, living out evangelical fantasies.

There is no other reasonable explanation. They have nothing to gain anymore.

  24. Well because Israel asked them to come to Qatar for mediation. From Turkey.

Where they can't attack because it is a NATO member.

It was duplicitous move that not only put an end to any good faith negotiations, but also attacke a mediator in a negotiation. The hostages are dead and the Israeli military killed them.

  25. This is a highly simplistic look at the facts. It is clear that these are not just citizens funding local candidates.

Also, they are advocating for a foreign nation. Under FARA rules they should be registered as forein agents.
