  1. I had the dilemma of choosing between Bazzite and CachyOS or Manjaro for my workstation, which is also my gaming rig.

The whole immutable distro felt like a hinder for my workflow (running docker containers, etc.), so that's why I went for CachyOS.

  2. I ran Archlinux as my main driver on both PC and Laptop for more than a decade but after having the opportunity to use a Windows machine with WSL and eventually WSL2, I felt like I had access to the best of both worlds: a Linux terminal for development (bash + tmux + vim, now bash + zellij + neovim) without the hassle of updates breaking things every few months and a out-of-the-box native gaming experience.

But with the enshitification of Windows (first all the spam and ads on the Start menu, then Microsoft forcing you to have an account to be able to use the machine and the expensive license for Windows Professional if you want access to Hyper-V, which I did), I did some research, tried a few new distros (Manjaro, Bazzite and CachyOS) and settled for CachyOS (gaming support was the main driver, based on Archlinux was secondary).

I do everything I did on Windows and some more: all the terminal stuff plus browsing, CAD modeling, 3D printing / slicing, Office stuff... I miss nothing. No more double partition to boot into Windows when I want to game.

My RX 9070 XT runs smoothly with no driver issues whatsoever. I even have tested the waters running some LLMs with LM Studio and that also worked out of the box.

The only thing that has been a bit meh are Teams and Slack and I believe that has to do with the fact that I ran them in Firefox. Once I ran Slack on Chromium, noise canceling was again available.

2009 was the year of Linux on desktop for me. 17 years later, after going back and forth between macOS and Windows, it feels good to be back home.

One last note in my random ramble is that I do not have as much spare time as before, and I had heard this from other people back in the day whenever I'd say I ran Archlinux on my machines, so I am going to repeat what others have said to me: it's really nice to not have to worry about much, be able to sit down and get productive right away. To me, CachyOS and KDE have made that idea my actual experience and for that I am grateful.

  3. My experience with generating code with AI is very limited across a limited set of programming languages but whenever it has produced low quality code, it has been able to better itself with further instructions. Like "oh no, that is not the right naming convention. Please use instead" or "the choice of design pattern here is not great because ${reasons}. Produce 2 alternative solutions using x or y" and in nearly every case it produces satisfactory results.

Has this also been your experience?

  4. This brings back good memories.

When I was in college I didn't have my own computer so I relied on the Windows machines from the library.

That's when I discovered Slax and Puppy Linux [1] and all its different variants. Such a beautiful thing to boot into these pendrive distros and discover the world of Linux through them without altering the host system.

    Good times.

  5. I recommend everyone to watch GamersNexus' documentary on the NVIDIA AI GPU black market. They explain how companies like DeepSeek can get a hold of chips that are otherwise banned by the US government to export to China

  6. I was going to ask how this would be better than any of the other options out there (like dd, the RPi imager and similar) but after seeing the README I consider this the superior alternative because you don't have to reflash the USB stick over and over again.

It supports multiple images at the same time, unlike the other solutions where one image take over the whole USB stick.

    Love it.

  7. I think your best bet is to traverse all the pipeline logs that make use of the action using Github's REST API.

It should be easy to do with thr Github CLI tool and some bash scripting.

Not sure how easy it'll be to parse the logs to look for a base64 string but it shouldn't be that complicated either.

  8. Is the cloud a must? What kind of performance are you after? You could repurpose an old desktop computer / server, slap a 4TB HDD on it and have it run at home or in your office.

The longer you use it, the cheaper it gets.

  9. > how do we push all that energy into the battery at home in just 90 seconds?

If they are talking about an individual cell with a nominal voltage of 3.7V, then "any" modern fast charger will do.

I don't think they were talking about a full-blown EV power bank.

  10. Thanks for sharing this.

Others have mentioned Signoz which I have tried but for my homelab it just feels like too much.

OpenObserve might be the solution that I have been looking for.

  11. Do you know if there is something similar for yuzu? did their code find a new home? forks are meh.
  12. Perhaps this is more security by obscurity but making it easier on criminals to find your personal information is not necessarily a good thing.

Imagine being a criminal and now you want to find your victim's personal information and you directly call Skatteverket...

Less compelling than going to hitta.se from a public, open wifi network

  13. I don't know if this is going to help you answer your questions but here is some background information: 1. In Sweden you must be registered at an address for all purposes (taxes, health care, official communications, etc.). 2. On websites like MrKoll's, all you need is a phone number to find someone's home address (you can also find someone's phone number using their home address).

Based on these two facts, all the bomber planning the attack needs is a phone number to find out the address. If the victim is using a burner phone (which, by the way, have become illegal in Sweden since 2023, now all "kontantkort" or anonymous simcards can't be anonymous, they have to be registered to someone's name, and you can only do that with a valid ID), they can otherwise target one of their family members.

    > Where is the evidence that the bombers used a data broker to find their target

The writing is on the wall. This is a free service. Why wouldn't they?

    > removing this information from the public would have changed anything?

The problem is that these companies (like MrKoll there are others) are abusing the media license they have been granted, not only violating rights that have been well established in the EU (which Sweden is a part of) but also they are making an already vulnerable population even more vulnerable.

Grandmas and Granpas are being targeted by scammers with all sorts of schemes, and where do they get phone numbers and also a quick profile of the target? via these websites.

So yeah, removing this information from the public would change something, perhaps not necessarily to the gang wars, but for sure for the safety of the public in general (gang family members would be harder to find).

  14. I remember when this happened.

I tried googling a bit but I couldn't find quickly enough an article that mentions Rhapsody, the streaming service, as the other party in the trademark dispute.

However, I do remember the whole thing when it happened because I had just discovered the band.

    Feels like ages ago

  15. Slightly off topic but I just came here to show appreciation for the hang glider in the picture.

Shout out to all my fellow hang gliders.

  16. I believe right now this type of telemetry data is for whitebox monitoring for backend components
  17. I ride electric unicycles and I have a question about these OneWheels: when you are rolling, the wheel self balances, right? And when you are reaching the power limitations of the board, does it let you know of this in any way? The EUC will either tiltback (the wheel will literally stop you from leaning even more, so you are forced to lean man) or it will beep very loudly for several seconds, before it finally cuts off either because you fried the board or because the wheel is protecting itself.
  18. You are right. My timeline is off. That doesn't make me any less angry, though.
  19. Agrgrgr I'm angry. Gandi got recently bought and people were saying that it was just a matter of time before they would pull something like this. Your predictions were right and I hate that I'm in this position now.

I'm reading the messages of people saying that they had paid for their domains like 10 years in advance but they are going to have to start paying for their mailboxes, which is a breach of contract.

These people are just pieces of shit.

    Fuck you, Gandi.net

  20. Great to see you guys here. I have been considering moving my mailbox to Tutanota but last time I checked it was not possible to import emails. What's the progress on that?
  21. That is kind of correct. There hasn't been a Thunderbird Android client, really. Since last year [1], K-9 became under the umbrella of Thunderbird. But before it was a completely separare and independent project that had nothing to do with Thunderbird.

  22. > Everything and everybody wants to look angry and dangerous.

    > I think it looks shit

    > And that's not a good thing.

  23. That's the one. Thanks! It's definitely better than the OP link because maigret will also look for linked accounts, so it's definitely smarter.
  24. I see that a lot of us rely heavily on the 2x free mail addresses we got per domain.

Is it an idea to join efforts & money and rent a VPS from Hetzner and run our own mail server?

  25. > I'd rather people treat plane flights as a rare luxury rather than a routine thing.

Trains would definitely be key here. However, for migrants living in another continent, it becomes impossible in several scenarios to go back to visit their beloved ones.

  26. I remember a while ago a similar tool was posted but that one could also derivate similar accounts if any of the originally found accounts had an email exposed or something.

Does anybody know which one I'm talking about? My Google-fu is failing me

  27. If you like htop you'd appreciate btop as well
  28. For me this almost completes the use case. The only sad part is that there is no 2-way sync for the mobile apps. It's a 1-way sync, where pics on your phone get pushed to the server but whenever you delete them from your phone, they stay in the server, effectively making you do double clean up. Ain't nobody got time for that.
  29. Thank you for this. I have been having some issues recently with one of my servers and my solution was to increase the size of the tmp mount but that's basically a Russian roulette.

Enabling swap during the update sounds like an elegant solution.

  30. There are plenty of people in the 2nd hand market parting ways with their dream of ergo and mech
