  1. Nice game, but this definitely needs a back button.
  2. Uh, yeah, I thought about Nginx or Apache and would expect them to be more secure then your average self-written application.
  3. Yes, but the web server is just reading files from disk and not invoking an application server. So if you keep your web server up to date, you are at a much lesser risk than if you would also have to keep your application + programming environment secure.
  4. 'If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe.'

    - Carl Sagan

They aren't going to cut the fiber cables if your Google accounts gets locked.

  5. Since the Ninja Creami hit the market as the "Pacojet Killer", I like to make my own lemon sorbet and Sgroppinos.

But of course I swapped the vodka for Limoncello.

  6. No, they didn't reduce production, they just stopped scaling it with the rising demand.

Chartreuse got very popular in the last few years, and the monks started to produce more, but now they are at a point where they feel they a) earn enough money for the monastery and b) they claim scaling further hurts the sustainability.

So instead of producing more, they allocate the existing stock mostly to the hospitality business instead of the private consumer.

  7. > Also please God pour out that old vermouth, get a new one and put it in your fridge.

Don't pour it out, but deglaze your pan the next time you cook.

  8. 426 Upgrade Required
  9. I know people here don't like site analytics, but for this one it's pretty good.

Setup Matomo or similar analytics software, write about a bunch of topics and review after a year which topics your readers are most interested in, for which they search on your site etc.

  10. It seems you're copying your data from myanimelist.net, including the synopsis.

I'm not sure on the details anymore, but I can think this is infringing their copyright.

For https://www.anistats.com/ I chose to display the content from anilist.co and their graphql API. But this was 5 years ago I made this decision.

I don't know if this matters anymore or to you. But congrats for shipping.

  11. Have you tried a coffein detox?
  12. > Doing the multiple account thing isn’t as easy as it sounds though. Some sites like Reddit make switching between accounts incredibly easy

And it's as easy to dox yourself by responding with the wrong account, as I have seen multiple times on Reddit.

  13. Message the authors about this. Most website owners don't know their cms is also creating a rss/atom feed. Sometimes it took awhile, but I had moderate success with it.
  14. How do you handle minor upgrades with 100% availability?
  15. You can get HA via leader election through Patroni.

    https://github.com/patroni/patroni

  16. For backups, pg_dump is good and simple for starting out.

    For tuning, postgresqlco.nf[1] is great.

  17. Do you need HA, or do you want to minimize downtime? At work we have something like an "error budget", were we accept downtime but try to minimize it. As such we have two nodes with one floating ip and a shared disk. The switch over takes as long as stopping the database on the first node, starting up the database on the second one and switching over the ip. Stuff like kernel updates takes us <1 minute of scheduled downtime, which is good enough for us.

Here is a good talk which resonated with me from the last pgconf: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rYP6xVymtI

If you want more, I think Patroni (by Zalando) is the current best option for you. Patroni handles automatic leader election if the master goes down, and it is open source. Read here more:

  18. Thanks, that helped a lot.
  19. I considered switching to Drupal. For which use cases do you think Drupal will shine? And for which not?
  20. If they talk about in-game currency, probably they mean mudflation. It's like inflation, but in games. If you can produce in-game currency out of nothing, the value drops.
  21. Good ol' Nagios does this, except maybe for pretty graphing. Maybe look into Icinga2 (fork of Nagios) for that.

The modern Version would be something like Prometheus with Grafana.

Zabbix might be too much for a homelab setup.

  22. > Still, the idea seems good: couldn't we have a system that detects if the runway is occupied and broadcasts that information on ILS?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airport_surveillance_and_broad...

  23. Thanks for that. I'm not dabbling in writing, but I love to hear the thoughts of people behind that.
  24. You can host it under a subdomain secret.example.com and have a single wildcard cert for *.example.com.

You can't hide that example.com exists, but you can hide all subdomains for that domain.

  25. DAVx⁵ operates under the same principle and they seem to have success with it.

    https://www.davx5.com/

  26. I'm not familiar with the concept of 'online' DDL. Does asynchron means I sacrifice consistency in this example?

       ALTER TABLE ADD COLUMN foo;
       SELECT * FROM table;
-- may return column foo, or may not?

DDL is still not safe to use in transactions, right?
  27. Make it n=2.
