  1. RDP does not mostly do that. It sends higher level commands like text and geometry placement. That’s why it performs 10x better than the competition.
  2. The West just wants to hurt Assad and by extension Russia and Iran. It is truly an evil war. Syria would have been better off under Assad than with what has happened due to Western intervention. The bar for toppling a sovereign order should be very high, and should almost always include a high chance of quick success and a viable alternative regime.
  3. Not true since the Win 9x days.
  4. People are a variety of ways. A healthy culture can accommodate that variety within reason. I reckon we’ve become a little too focused on agreeableness as a culture. Not that you should strive to be an asshole. But some people are just naturally blunt and abrasive. And that’s okay. A lot of the trouble is in people’s reactions to that, since thick skin seems to be on long-term decline too.

I’m not sure we’re disagreeing about anything. What you wrote is good advice to someone who’s too argumentative.

  5. It’s better to not be an asshole. But it’s mostly okay to be an asshole too. The world needs more than just ultra-agreeable people. I reckon grudge-holding is way more destructive to teams than abrasiveness. There’s lots to be said in favor of the asshole who moves past a conflict as soon as it’s over.
  6. The index should not be slower unless something is seriously wrong.
  7. The Boston Massacre was bullshit. John Adams defended the soldiers in court and had them acquitted.
  8. Because it’s cool to support democrats but supporting republicans publicly will get you canceled.
  9. If you throw rocks at a military unit and then chase them as they try to retreat, you’re fair game. Throwing rocks is no small matter. A single blow from a rock can kill a man. Not to mention that this was part of a series of demonstrations that had already devolved into outright rioting.
  10. “Continuation” is a nasty lie when the original is by no means discontinued or dormant.
  11. You’ve linked an article about a doctrine specific to patent law. Does not apply here. Also, it only speculates that it might be in issue in an acquisition of a subsidiary (vs. a direct merger).
  12. So? He let them use it in the game in exchange for $20k. That’s all they want or need. And before you start with this tiresome license transfer crap, please take a second to read this whole thread to see why that’s not relevant.
  13. If their son was revealed to have run a multibillion dollar scam with their help, maybe.
  14. Interesting. So do you think the author had inside information on the location?
  15. 1. CRI is not the be all, end all. You also want high R9, which CRI does not measure.

    2. Good high-CRI, high-R9 bulbs cost over $25 per bulb.

    3. That does nothing about the hideous lighting in my office, in hotels, or in anyone else’s home.

  16. High-CRI and high R9 (super important and not measured in CRI) bulbs cost over $25 per bulb.
  17. You should be a little more skeptical. People don’t always tell the truth. And reasons for quitting is probably one of the most frequent lies people tell.

    Headline: Man arrested for robbery

    Him: I didn’t do it.

You: Seems like he didn’t do it.

  18. What? They paid him exactly what he agreed to. Nothing in the story suggests otherwise.
  19. Yes he did. Do you people read the article before arguing about what’s in it? “and so I said, OK, I’ll take whatever the first thing you offered was.”

Just because it’s his story doesn’t mean he can’t be immature and wrong in it.

  20. The exchange value of something is what people are willing to pay for it.
  21. You went on a rant impugning the characters of the other people involved and making yourself the victim. All that really happened is you got a good deal for a bit of writing, $20k. You wish you had asked for more. Everyone here called your bullshit. Now you wish people just saw your attack on the other people as art or an emotional journey or whatever other nonsense. If you want to make art, then make art. But if you write an attack on other people’s actions, then expect people to be critical.
  22. “and so I said, OK, I’ll take whatever the first thing you offered was.”

Edit: I’m rate limited, but Microsoft doesn’t need a transfer. They bought the entire company. Just like you buying some shares on the stock exchange, except they bought all of the shares in a private transaction. Had they done an asset purchase instead, your point might be valid.

  23. You don’t understand. Microsoft didn’t buy Mojang’s assets. They bought Mojang itself. Read the very next section of the page you linked.
  24. >IANAL

I can tell. None of what you wrote, which is mostly wrong, matters. Microsoft bought Mojang not specific property of Mojang.

  25. Nope this guy agreed to it in email. It’s over. License didn’t need to transfer since Microsoft bought Mojang, not just specific property of Mojang.
