  1. For Germany specific Blue Card, company doesn't really need to support the candidate, its fairly straight forward and easy to obtain if the candidate has the salary & degree for BC, they just need a job contract.
  2. Whats the reason of the restriction for `We can only relocate candidates who are in the EU.` ?
  3. > In my opinion, it's fine to raise taxes on those kinds of freelancer/employer relations to the same level as salaried employees

omg, brilliant idea! Since we are not paying enough already.

  4. Its amazing so far! I'm unemployable, I don't like commiting to a company, working in the same project for longer than 6 months, maximum is like 12 months if its a good one. I like working and collaborating with people but I hate all the corporate BS, team buildings, scrum meetings, meetings to set other meetings. And I hate working for 40 hours.

I started my career as a freelancer, then had to take a fulltime job to move countries and get permanent residency, switched back to freelancing 2 years ago. Now I'm working around 20-30 hours per week and make 2x than my first full-time job.

My fulltime jobs were "very flexible" and fully remote after the covid but I always had to be online at specific times or had to pretend that I'm online. Now I'm super flexible, I can work 4 hours in the morning and enjoy rest of the day off, or work 3 days and take rest of the days off and I don't have to report to anyone about these.

I'm fine even if I don't have a job for 6 months or so, I travel a lot with a campervan. I don't have any debt or kids. I've been always lucky with getting clients somehow. So I guess thats a luxury.

TLDR; I love it but finding a stable stream of clients might be stressful.

  5. > The project is conducted in partnership with the Strengthening Social Cohesion and Peace in Sri Lanka (SCOPE) programme, co-funded by the European Union and German Federal Foreign Office. SCOPE is implemented by GIZ in partnership with the Ministry of Justice, Prisons Affairs and Constitutional Reforms.

Is this specific project really funded by tax-payers money?

    > Curated thousands of 3D assets to replace default buildings

How does this help to achieve any of these below ?

    > Potential applications include:

    > Simulating changes in roads, transport routes

    > Exploring effects of changes in private transport policies

    > Visualizing impact of new infrastructure like monorails or wider pavements

    > Assessing effects of introducing more green spaces or parking areas

  7. Interesting concept. Just wondering, how does it stay updated with the latest info?
  8. I travel in a campervan a lot and Germany's 4G coverage is the reason I had to buy Starlink.
  9. I've had a similar one and find it extremely helpful for both parties. It should get more common!
  10. Dokku on a Hetzner instance, can handle 10s of apps if I need. Very simple to setup and manage. Deploys with git push.
  11. I hate that developers are inventing their own "patterns" to look cool, they keep overengineering even the product doesn't have the PMF yet and you can't say that is stupid because you have to be professional.
  12. Moved in 2018, looking forward for leaving soon!
  13. I gave up in the middle of the tutorial.

  17. > There are quite a few services here that handle everything

May I ask what is it called?

  18. Fun stuff <3

Another sad thing is, you can easily get buried in the costs of Legal/Tax advisor costs even for some simple stuff.

That is why sometimes its better not to 'entreprendre' anything while living in Germany. The system is setup in a way to make you work full-time for corps.

  19. When you ask about ways to minimize, you are treated as a criminal who is avoiding taxes.
  20. I would guess Poland
  21. non-German living in Germany, I couldn't agree more. When I complain about this, Germans usually reply with 'then go back to your home'.
  22. > Now you could try to sell your shares to the other two founders before trying to move, which doesn't exactly simplify your life at this point.

Just curious, could you just give it away for free or do they also have some value that will be taxed even though you didn't get any money?

  23. > where most energy is spent setting up a company and navigating bureaucracy

maybe that's the goal of the system? Small players end up dying so big corps who can afford an army of accountants and lawyers prevail.

  24. In my opinion, the creation of such regulations primarily serves as a barrier to entry for large corporations, much like many EU regulations.

Smaller companies often lack the resources to employ costly lawyers to guide them through the complex regulatory landscape, which ultimately allows only big companies to thrive. This gives big corporations a distinct advantage within the system.

While I don't oppose the GDPR itself, as an independent developer, it deters me from a lot of ideas, even though I have no intention of engaging in questionable activities. The fear of inadvertently making an error and being hit with a massive fine is quite daunting. So in the end I just don't do it.

  25. I've also had a not so cool experience with them, the interviewer canceled 30 mins before the call and mentioned they will send an email to reschedule tomorrow. That was in September 2021, haven't heard back again :)
  26. I'm a developer for 10 years and I've started to mentoring by HackHands on Ruby and Ruby on Rails. I realized its so much fun and improves my knowledge.

I believe knowledge should be free and I've done lots of volunteered mentoring like instructing RoR 101 more than 200 hours, created a free online RoR101 course.

I find mentoring, helping and instructing people about something you know is fun and exciting, also it makes you better at it.

I also do mentoring at https://www.codementor.io/beydogan

  27. Interesting! I built Gitcussion for the exact same reason few years ago. https://gitcussion.com/
