The ROI on that 30 storey would be high enough for them to give you multiple millions of dollars for your land. What would decrease is the beauty of the neighborhood, but people can be taught to appreciate the beauty of highrise buildings
- Two big leaps in your answer: 1. that the person paying more is rich and 2. that the person paying more likely doesn't care about the band
The way I see it, it is also highly likely that the person paying more is of average income and just convinced themselves to pay more because they are superfans
- What you are talking of is only possible in companies where the founder didn't take VC investment. Once you take VC money, you get on the treadmill of infinite growth to satisfy investors. That makes companies do strange things in pursuit of this impossible goal. Like hiring for the sake of showing growth in headcount, hiring people to branch into unrelated verticals, hiring people with big resumes just to say you have them on the team etc
- One thing I've come to realize is that the larger your social circle, the more prone you are to comparisons and hence lifestyle creep. You can see this where the careers that involve a lot of socializing (sales, entertainment, law, finance etc) are known for having flashy people. And the careers that you can do as a loner (programming, quant, researcher etc) are known for having miserly folk
- It's the same with TikTok. If you search literally anything, some absurdly curvy, skimpily dressed woman will be part of the search results. Weird because I thought adult creators would be the first to be censored once social media platforms got to the profit maximization stage. G rated content is the biggest revenue multiplier in the media business
- Actually Patreon has played it perfectly by offering an android app, ios app and a website, and increasing the prices on the ios app to cater for the fees. The next thing should be to provide a clear notice on the ios app that lower prices can be found on the other apps. Then they will be able to objectively tell how many people value the app store's value additions enough to pay extra
- Takes like this miss the forest for the trees. The overall point is that automated programming is now a target, just like automating assembly lines became a target back in the day. There will be kinks in the beginning, but once the target is set, there will be a huge incentive to work out the kinks to the point of near full automation
- The way I see it, LLMs have taken one mode of thinking, which is educated guessing, and ramped it up to superhuman levels. Same way Deep Blue took rote memorization and ramped it up to superhuman levels. I think the true AI would come from digitizing all the different modes of thinking, then somehow bringing them all together into one superintelligence
