  1. He has been selling a lot of Tesla stocks through the life of the company (not that it matters to him as other shareholders are giving him load of free shares all the time).
  2. The flagging system on HN is really not efficient and often abused.
  3. Today facebook asks for a 3D scan of your face to create an account… no way!
  4. Oh really the same usual bullshit about EU? Can you tell me who is voting for a French or UK prime minister or a German chancellor? Who is voting for the federal council member in Switzerland? Yeah all this countries are governed by unelected people like the EU… EU commission is confirmed by the EU parliament in the same as most of the executive of the EU countries.
  5. You cannot have free trade without a common legal framework otherwise countries will just drop all norms to compete. If you think that you can have fred trade in Europe without this legal alignment I have a bridge to sell you.
  6. Oh really Ireland is not a member?
  7. My wife grandmother made it to 102 and when she died (from an infection)it was a surprise as she was still very active and was walking everyday. Genetics and luck play also a big role.
  8. They did the same with inflation numbers…
  9. When a civilization is tempted to abandon science, it is the one that remains committed to science that ultimately thrives.
  10. And so it’s ok to break traffic rules? In my country, as a human this will get you easily a one month license suspension.
  11. In Saudi Arabia they just disappear or are even executed in total secrecy. They even execute women that were raped… https://reprieve.org/uk/2023/01/31/saudi-arabia-and-the-deat... And please have a look at your index, if there a broken one it is this one https://hdr.undp.org/data-center/thematic-composite-indices/... In 2013 Saudi Arabia went from almost last to ahead of countries like Cuba… Cuba may not be a great country but female don’t need a perpetual male tutor to do anything.
  12. 3 years ago Saudi Arabia set into its law (on the international women’s day) that a male relative always have control on a woman. A few years ago only, women were allowed to drive but as of today they are very few female drivers. But that’s not the point, the point is the hypocrisy to point at a political regime because he his not aligned with your views while having as a best friend the worst absolute monarchy.
  13. No but talking badly of the royal family will get you executed: https://cpj.org/2025/06/saudi-arabia-executes-journalist-tur...
  14. They don’t care about the regime, they only want it to be aligned with the US and Israel. The Saudi absolute monarchy regime (something that is way worst than the Iranian one) that is directly coming from middle ages, doesn’t get the same journalistic treatment in the US. Women rights in Iran are lightyears ahead of what is happening in Saudi Arabia. But who cares? Talking about Iran regime change only is pure hypocrisy when your best friend in the region can kill anyone by just deciding it.
  15. But HN is not a social media, you don’t publish and are not linked to anyone (I cannot subscribe to your comment) on this site. Your definition of social media is almost equivalent of the internet.
  16. You could use this kind of technology to extract the heat: https://enerdrape.com/en/solution/
  17. 0°C tells you the very practical information that it's freezing outside and that you must be careful, or you can expect snow. For F° you have to know the value by heart.
  18. People are living longer (but not really in the US), but the health span is not seeing the same increase unfortunately.
  19. Exactly this. In Switzerland, you generally have 3-4 vote periods per year with 0-8 different subjects). This is needed to make sure that people vote on the subject.
  20. Another interesting fact about Baudelaire: he was the translator into French of many of Edgar Allan Poe's works. They also shared many common points; Baudelaire said that when he opened one of Poe's books, he was reading subjects and sentences he had already dreamed about.
  21. But with a full water atmosphere in a space ship you would be way more protected from radiation :)
  22. And then the US vice president try to lecture Europeans on freedom of speech...
  23. It‘s not a word of play as it literally means complicated things added to the normal watch function. The word with that watch making meaning is coming directly from French (most famous watch makers are coming from the speaking part of Switzerland).
  24. Sometimes I wonder what are the fundamental differences between these states and Iran or Afghanistan except that their imaginary friend is slightly different.
  25. The fiber will only link to the launchpad, the pilot can be anywhere.
  26. Can you give me the example of one regulation that China doesn‘t have that make them more competitive?
  27. Carmat a French company has a total heart product for a while in Europe. In February they celebrated the 100 implants, with the longest one lasting 25 month. https://www.carmatsa.com/en/our_product/

However this is really difficult and the company is struggling financially as the market is rather limited.

  28. STmicro is producing chips at around 14-18nm. ASML is the one producing the leading lithography machine, and we are not talking about ARM, Infineon or NXP. Europe has the capacity to produce their own processors if needed.
