- You also have to think deeper than that, media in the west is propaganda, you have to ask why are they all pushing the "children are in danger from social media" narrative? You should never make the mistake to be so naive to trust in their genuine good intentions, this has nothing to do with children.
The real purpose is to build broad consensus for surveillance, control and censorship of social media, "to protect the children" is the thing they tell you to justify it. They are recognizing they have lost the narrative control. How do you manufacture consent for war and genocide when you have completely lost young people, they see the wall of carnage and dead children and will not be persuadable by the legacy media telling them to close their eyes and ears.

- I would imagine these models heavily bias towards western mainstream "authorative" literature, news and science not some random reddit threads, but the resulting mixture can really offend anybody, it just depends on the prompting, it's like a mirror that can really be deceptive.
I'm not a liberal and I don't think it has a liberal bias. Knowledge about facts and history isn't an ideology. The right-wing is special, because to them it's not unlike a flat-earther reading a wikipedia article on Earth getting offended by it, to them it's objective reality itself they are constantly offended by. That's why Elon Musk needed to invent their own encyclopedia with all their contradictory nonsense.
- It's just they have been in charge for so long, and gotten their ideology implemented for decades, the damage they caused is now so large and felt by so many people deep inside the neocolonial core that we finally see the first cracks in this system.
If these people were aware of the current moment instead of just confused and trapped in their own ideological bubble, they would probably all be wearing MAGA hats, since the authoritarian right is the only way they can realistically hold on to their rotten system in the long run. Curious why that's not a lesson they learned from history, too uncomfortable to think about that part I suppose.
- True leftism threatens the power of capitalists. Liberalism is not leftism.
- Americans have the politics of toddlers, the most manipulated people on the planet. "I'm a libertarian, we need to regulate greed" just like wtf even
- Andrew Yang isn't left-wing wtf. People think Obama is left-wing too, people are so politically confused
- > This is America
It's probably not, but your post almost reads like satire in reference to the tv show by Sacha Baron Cohen with the same name. Living with so many contradictions for so long just leaves one confused and disoriented when it all shatters around you. American exceptionalism means the freedom to poison the well and the freedom to die from drinking poisoned water.
- Terrible argument, you should say because of generative AI where anybody can fabricate any image/video/audio of anyone in any context without their consent we urgently need new regulation of social media platforms to accommodate this profound change in our reality. Then make your argument.
You have no expectation of privacy in public spaces since forever, that is not a problem. Because nobody can photograph you stabbing someone and uploading it on social media without you actually stabbing someone. This is now different, because anyone now can make that photograph of you stabbing someone and post it.
That must be your argument.
And it must be on the social media side, because in X months some open model on GitHub is gonna make every watermark or cloud-based safety feature meaningless anyway.
- It's not a representative sample so the dislikes it shows aren't accurate it's a bad estimate. I also heard some content creators that said they compared with real dislike numbers and it was way off.
- No it just looks at exact character sequences, try it out yourself here: https://platform.openai.com/tokenizer
- Of course not, but US imperialism is a bipartisan issue, what Trump does is remove the pretense that makes liberals sleep better at night. I think it's good that they removed it, let's get rid of all the lies and hypocrisy. Nothing material changes, it just makes it harder for democrats to pretend it's about something other than violent neocolonialism and might is right foreign policy they have been complicit in for decades.
- The way modern tokenizers are constructed is by iteratively doing frequency analysis of arbitrary length sequences using a large corpus. So what you suggested is already the norm, tokens aren't n-grams. Words and any sequence really that is common enough will already be one token only, the less frequent a sequence is the more tokens it needs. That's the Byte-pair encoding algorithm:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byte-pair_encoding
It's also not lossy compression at all, it's lossless compression if anything, unlike what some people have claimed here.
Shocking comments here, what happened to HN? People are so clueless it reads like reddit wtf
- Obviously they will eventually no longer license AGPL at all. It's wild to me how this can be a surprise to anyone, this entire company has been one gigantic red flag for years and that's just what's publicly known. It's a legal department with a software product as a side business.
- Because yours is anecdotal evidence, a study like this should have a higher bar than that and be useful to support your experience, but it doesn't do that. It doesn't even say what exact models they evaluated ffs
- I partially agree, it seems a lot have shifted the argument to news media criticism or something else. But this study is also questionable, for anyone who reads actual academic studies that should be immediately obvious. I don't understand why the bar is this low for some paid Ipsos study vs. some peer-reviewed paper in some IEEE journal?
Like for a study like this I expect as a bare minimum clearly stated model variants used, R@k recall numbers measuring retrieval and something like BLEU or ROUGE to measure summarization accuracy against some baseline on top of their human evaluation metrics. If this is useless for the field itself, I don't understand how this can be useful for anyone outside the field?
Western propaganda works in mysterious ways.
