  1. Reddit must just have terrible developers. Like they havent paid them enough and it shows in the product. But its the most popular forum on the internet, so people use it anyways.
  2. its definitely common. Really short stints on a resume damage careers
  3. An an Amazon employee I can say this absolutely happens, and not only that, some managers really think they are upholding the Amazon bar by pipping people out early. "He didn't meet the bar" is something ive heard multiple times after someone was only a month on the job. Not only that, teammates often dont help eachother, old systems are extremely complex. There is very little sympathy, and massive data collection about employees and their productivity.
  4. I work for Amazon as an SDE, in alot of cases working here is fine, but there are teams with absolutely barbaric management practices.
  5. Large scale truth suppression
  6. People are underestimating how much content disappears. But I think the long run is far more Thruthful, video of everything widely available, difficult for platforms to eradicate, and shattering to the large scale brainwashing
  7. Ahhaha... Google is basically just a large data collecting bot net
  8. Pretty obvious this came from a lab. Theres no easy resolution to the problem though. Is the USA going to confront China? Spark a dangerous tension? They are meddling with technology that they dont respect, and we are all suffering the consequences
  9. Because tech has alot of nerdy men online, who arent the demographic known for attracting women. Its absolutely relevant, the discussion is mostly suppressed. It will impact society in a big way though
  10. Alot of popular discussions that become unsavory, i.e. discussions about incels and sexless men get removed from the front page. Basically hard truths that are hot topics for men in technology. HN generally avoids allowing controversial discussions about race, gender, discrimination, etc.

All of which I think is fine, this isnt really the medium for that. When a big event occurs, they allow the discussion, otherwise, things get downranked. I really dont think the downranking is by members, it usually happens too rapidly, and makes no sense given the number of replies occurring in the thread.

  11. My real question is all the young men that will have to marry all these women exposing themselves online for money. Three times in the past week I drove by a car where a girl put her venmo on the window. On dating apps its now common for girls to have a venmo in their profile. This culture is far more widespread than just twitch.
  12. hahah.... well yes there is that as well. A potential 50% loss of basically lifetime savings
  13. Alternative view: people worked hard and are now making 400-600k in middle management and are 5-8 years from retirement.
  14. Beach real estate only massively inflates in california once, BTC only goes from .1 c to 50k once. These are once in a multigenerational outcomes for asset classes that we will be paying for, for decades. I will spend my 30s and 40s making in the top 1-3%, but still making just enough to afford a nice home in a nice area, with a wife that doesn't work, multiple kids, and nice things. Things people used to take for granted. Not the bare minimum lifestyle, but one would expect more from being so high up on the income totem pole.

It feels to me like I am working to keep the monetary policy afloat.

  15. Literally were all working to keep the system going while they print money to inflate assets held by old people.
  16. "If you do choose the ambitious route, you'll have a tailwind behind you. There has never been a better time to be a nerd. In the past century we've seen a continuous transfer of power from dealmakers to technicians — from the charismatic to the competent — and I don't see anything on the horizon that will end it. At least not till the nerds end it themselves by bringing about the singularity."
  17. The front end seems to me like it was written by a bunch of new grads. Its such a miserable experience.
  18. Amazon manager spotted
  19. It almost never resolves. Ive been doing this for ten years now. People accept too much abuse from their employers, and if more just simply walked out on this behavior then we would all be better off.
  20. The way I deal with it is by leaving the team immediately. My life is too short to put up with being treated like a slave. I am too good at programming.
  21. This is a misnomer. Go look at levels.fyi, L6 at Amazon is either matched or beats L5/E5. People dont know how much money Amazon really pays, they just hear about the mediocre performers. Amazon absolutely pays huge sums for top engineers, they just dont talk about it. I know of SDE2s making 450k before equity appreciation
  22. Actually Amazon commonly beats Google comp, and matches FB. Senior employees at Amazon see the highest comp in the industry. Its less discussed, and really only at the lower levels that Amazon gets its reputation for being cheap and having lower talent. AWS Senior Engineers are top talent bar none.
  23. Read this blog:

    https://ai.googleblog.com/

It maybe somewhat removed for what youre looking for, but heres the secret:

You cant speak intelligently and usefully about AI unless you have some kind of understanding about the cutting edge and whats possible. So read the newest research and connect it with your business

  24. Tether was the original pumper of bitcoin. Its was got this huge rise started. "Where is all this capital coming from for BTC?!!" Well you see it started as a ponzi scheme and then everyone thought some whale knew something they didnt. And so goes how crypto got started.
  25. Yeah but they arent though. 350-400k is actually somewhat low for senior. They have been paying this for a long time. Its great money remote. I really dont understand the issue
