- leptonsIt seems like it only works on pages that scroll, which is not good. I deleted the <header> and <footer> elements on the page, and was unable to anything but "cancel" after clicking "pick". Also did not work setting max-height on the <main> element and overflow-y:scroll, even though I could scroll the items did not scroll with it. It is an experiment and probably doesn't have every implementation detail covered yet.
- You realize that Zuck is trying to produce AGI, which is a money pit deeper than anything he's ever thrown money away on.
- Well it's probably nowhere near the size of the money-pit that "AI" currently is in.
- Already happened - they renamed "Department of Defense" to "Department of War".
- I have no doubt that Microsoft has already classified the nature of my work and quality of my code. Of course it's probably "anonymized". But there's no doubt in my mind that they are watching everything you give them access to, make no mistake.
- It already happened.

They even admitted to using copyrighted material.

- Tell that to all the people suing them for using their copyrighted work. In some cases the data was even pirated.
- > LLMs don’t “learn” from the information they operate on, contrary to what a lot of people assume.
Nothing is really preventing this though. AI companies have already proven they will ignore copyright and any other legal nuisance so they can train models.
- A cellphone is a computer that is (typically) permamemtly powered and connected.
- Well the goalposts have moved outside the stadium, folks.
- And yet all it takes is buying a piece of hardware and installing an app, something that plenty of "normal" people do every day.
- >You can try to be that “own cloud” snob but it only works if you live in a basement
WTF is this about? So you think anyone proficient in hardware/software lives in a basement? This kind of derogatory statement does not belong on HN.
- No, we definitely would not, but you aren't here to engage in any kind of honest discussion. Your assertions are simply not supported by reality.
- That's funny, because the president (Republican) just signed an executive order forbidding states from enacting their own AI regulations. Meanwhile, California's governor (Democrat) is trying to regulate AI.
Please explain how that's "exactly the same".
- >And since Python does not natively run in the browser, that mistake never happens.
Did you even bother to read my comment? Try again, please. Next time don't skip over parts.
- This isn't a Javascript problem, this is a React problem. You could theoretically rewrite React and RSC in any language and the outcome would be the same. Say Python ran in the browser natively, and you reimplented React on browser and server in Python. Same problem, not Javascript.
- I would at some point throw my phone out the window if it worked like this. Instead I choose to have zero help correcting anything I type on my phone. I proofread, and fix any errors before I hit "send". I'm also on a folding android phone with a large screen and a 3rd-party keyboard app with adjustable size keys, so it's very easy to type.
- It's not performative when people are losing health insurance and other people are at risk of starving. I agree with holding out on the government shutdown to try to prevent Americans losing healthcare. But when Republicans are absolutely fine with poor people starving so that they can take away people's healthcare, with a bonus that they get to shut down the government and say "see, government doesn't work", it becomes clear that letting the government shut down (especially food program shutdowns) continue is going to hurt more people than the government shutdown is going to help. So, when you say "performative" it sounds like you support the "both sides are the same" meme, but the ideologies are vastly different - one side is fine with people starving indefinitely, and the other actually doesn't want that.
I would think at least some of this should be obvious, but I guess not?
- Both sides are not the same, not even close, and the voting record proves it.
