  1. If you're interested in the ancient Maya, El Salvador doesn't come close to Guatemala or Mexico (followed by Belize and Honduras). These are also wonderful places to visit, IMHO.
  2. I recently discovered Audacity includes plug-ins for audio separation that work great (e.g. split into vocals track and instruments track). The model it uses also originated at Facebook (demucs).
  3. That would be a big zip file, but would not take a long time to unzip.
  4. Also the order in Unicode. 1072 chars. (based on Gardiner's list),

  5. I don't think you can separate String from Unicode - that's what a "String" is in Swift.
  6. I think using "extended grapheme clusters" (EGC) (rather than code points or bytes) is a good idea. But, why not let you do "x[:2]" (or "x[0..<2]") for s String with the first two EGCs? (maybe better yet - make that return "String?")
  7. I just saw a tweet saying his birth was closer to the death of Thomas Jefferson (1826) than it is to today. Wow.
  8. Silly. Don't waste your time on problems other people have already solved! Use JS and "npm install odd_or_even".
  9. Almost all these points apply ride hailing with or without driver-less.

How do Waymo prices compare to Uber where Waymo exists?

  10. The examples he showed, I didn’t mind. From the title, I thought he might be referring to the emojis in READMEs. Those annoy me and don’t add anything. (I assume all vibe-coded)
  11. Salute to this guy, Xu Qinxian.

Funny how (possibly worse) anti-democratic massacres done by US allies (and much more recently) don't get continuous coverage US/Western/Business/Tech press.

  12. "death" can be pretty slow - IBM has $60B in revenue and 270K employees.
  13. I wonder how many other "Pompeii of ___" exist. I also know of the "Pompeii of Central America" (Joya de Cerén in El Salvador).
  14. Just because a phrase appears, doesn't lead to what you said. "UNESCO" appears once, but no where says UN people "are being brought in to administer it".
  15. Did you read the article?
  16. > Why pay $30/seat/month for over bundled SaaS when soon even nontech ops ppl can vibe-code a custom solution in a weekend?

Seems ironic to post that - doesn't that same logic imply that most YC companies are worthless?

  17. Minor point - but I think Grokipedia's design looks much worse than Wikipedia. I can't put my finger on it, but maybe because Grokipedia's main text is too narrow (I'm on a laptop). (I may be biased by loving Wikipedia though).
  18. > Our work was heavily inspired by KyutaiTTS and Sesame

I wish they’d describe the technical details of the differences between this and other TTS they were “inspired by”.

So many projects like this, I will just have to assume they are vibe-coded clones to get some publicity unless there’s more technical details.
