- The U.S. goods trade deficit with Canada was $63.3 billion in 2024, a 1.4 percent decrease ($926.9 million) over 2023.

And again what will be gained? What is the problem exactly you think our genius president will fix?
Canadians are massively boycotting the US, in addition to being the US’s largest export market they are the number one source of tourism to the US.
Canada is the top source of international visitors to the United States, with 20.4 million visits in 2024, generating $20.5 billion in spending and supporting 140,000 American jobs. A 10% reduction in Canadian travel could mean 2.0 million fewer visits, $2.1 billion in lost spending and 14,000 job losses.
All this is just dumb and reckless, but not surprising coming from a business man who managed to bankrupt casinos
- It’s an understatement to say Canada is extremely displeased at this, it will cost the US billions in lost trade and tourism. And for what? The trade deficit if you take out oil exports from Canada to the US is actually in favor of the US. Many American jobs will be lost because of this.
That trust and relationship will not be rebuilt easily, you vastly underestimate the damage and cost that will come from all the ill will being generated.
Words from a president are not just words, they carry weight, but now that tariffs are actually in effect we can see plain as day the first part of him carrying to execution his reckless and completely senseless ideas.
- Great job, love the simplicity. On mobile would be nice if the choice of places was collapsible or maybe in a modal? Another place to add is Camden Art Center https://camdenartcentre.org
- The fog of propaganda is pretty deep to write those word to defend a man who did exactly that: tried to extend his power through illegal means. He failed last time, he is far more likely to succeed now. And yes his means are again illegal, we don’t elect kings, there are still rules to follow.
- In theory yes, in practice in the US today it’s becoming more and more of a fantasy. I hope we can get back there one day, we have the constitutional framework to do so, but the current system is running fast in the opposite direction, one party is rabidly embracing deregulation which will exacerbate these negative points, and the other one failed to live up to its ideals because the entire political class depends on lobbying dollars and was too busy focusing on performative agendas.
- Not everything needs to be profit generating, government funded research is how we get breakthroughs with very wide ranging benefits, especially when we are talking about advances in medicine. Profit making will often have the opposite effect by incentivizing the protection of existing monopolies, fake innovations to protect patentable revenue streams, and anti competitive regulatory capture.
- In my experience the AWS waf and ddos mitigation are really expensive (min $40k per year contract) and are missing really basic ddos handling capabilities (last I evaluated it they did not have the ability to enforce client js validation which can be very effective against some bot networks). Maybe it has evolved since but Cloudflare enterprise was cheaper and more capable out of the box.
- This is at best wishful thinking when 2/3 of the federal budget are medicare/ss/military. What exactly will get cut?
The efficiency cuts they are talking about will barely make a dent while making services worse for everyone. Good luck next time a disaster area needs FEMA assistance.
And not unlike a business when you have a deficit you have two options: cut cost and increase revenues, this incoming government will very likely decrease revenues through tax cuts, making the deficit even worse.
- this looks really cool, will be reading through the dev docs and most likely purchasing one. Love that the server is also available to self host.
ps. the mobile navigation bugs sometimes (with the animation loading randomly it seems) so I couldn’t find the plugin docs at first, and there is no navigation back to the main page from the plugin directory it seems. hope that helps.
- China is sliding and failing, 15-20 years ago it seemed imminent that China would surpass the US, but today the US is the strongest militarily and economically by far that it’s ever been by all measures.
Not everyone in the US is sharing in this success equally, but in pure economic terms the US is completely dominating the world stage, including being the biggest oil producer in the world, and home to the largets market cap companies.
- Perfect example of whataboutism. Even if what you say is true, did she refuse to concede? did she then incite her followers to attack the seat of government to stop the certification of his victory? did she pressure election officials to « find enough votes » for her to win a state she had lost? did she continue to tell this lie for years and continually attack the integrity of the electoral system, to the point that now the majority of her followers believe the election was rigged?
I stand by my initial statement, you are repeating propaganda, no matter what your motives are. She didn’t open a door that he then followed into, as if his actions were because of her. He even announced in 2016 that he would never accept the election results unless he won. It’s all a big lie.
- That is just more propaganda to justify trump’s attempt to steal an election he clearly lost.
Clinton didn’t claim she won, she won the popular vote by 2 million votes, that’s what she claimed which is accurate, but she conceded defeat. Trump still hasn’t to this day.
Our entire system relies on people playing by the rules, trump’s lies are extremely dangerous and have no parallel to any other modern US presidential candidate. Believing his lies or playing whataboutisms with the facts is toxic to our democratic system, I just hope my fellow Americans will wake up one day from this fantasy.
The republicans once were the rule of law party.
