  1. > their authority should never be challenged in the streets

What if it’s the only way to save your life or the life of another innocent?

  2. Jump to conclusions like triple-tapping a soccer mom?
  3. People with this level of lack of constraint and trigger-happiness shouldn't possess firearms or the authority to interact with society in a law-enforcement (or immigration) capacity.
  4. Completely incorrect. You should look at the NYT frame by frame breakdown of the shooting for a better understanding of what happened.
  5. It’s seems as though you’re being deliberately obtuse. It’s obvious why this is illegal.
  6. Would it be possible to structure the company so that it can never be sold in this fashion?
  7. You don't see how a rogue government might affect technology, the people who build technology, the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness, and essentially all elements of the lives we're used to leading? Seems relevant.
  8. How about we prosecute all the criminals in this administration committing all the crimes? It shouldn't be surprising that people are more concerned about a US citizen being gunned down in the states than some Venezuelan fishermen.
  9. Hacker news could fix this if they wanted to.
  10. Creating CSAM or non-consensual sexually explicit images of others in photoshop is immoral. If you can’t see that then you need to take an ethics course.
  11. Too many people have abandoned reason for madness.
  12. Because he's an attention-seeking child?
  13. Why is trump working so hard to keep these files concealed if there isn't anything negative about him in them?

Are you familiar with trump bragging about going into the miss teen USA changing rooms while they weren't clothed?

If trump is innocent / the good guy, why not release the documents and prove it?

  14. Lord of the rings: A human-like individual leaves his house to drop a ring in some lava.
  15. Or do what they did in subsequent murder attempts when there were survivors: pick them up alive and return them from whence they came.
  16. If you reran the 2024 election right now Trump and the republicans would lose in a landslide. Just look at recent polling and election results.
  17. This administration is not "America First". It is Trump first, second, third, ..., Trump's children/family, ..., ..., ..., influential people who stroke Trump's ego, ..., the rich, ...
  18. I don't know what you tell you if the systematic abuse of hundreds (some reporting does suggest more than 1000) children doesn't rile you up. The fact that it is nearly exclusively rich and powerful people who participated only amplifies the effect. Most of us are absolutely fed up with the two-tier justice system, where the rich, powerful, and connected get to do whatever they want, while regular folk continually have their rights eroded. The powerful are often able to divert our attention from the injustice of the rich/powerful by dividing the people with propaganda, pitting one side against the other. Turns out the Epstein situation is one of the rare cases where nearly everyone agrees. You should expect it to receive increasingly large amounts of attention until we actually receive the real info and heads roll.
  19. Seeing how trump has a colossal ego and loves to “win”, wouldn’t it makes sense for him to champion their release, exonerating himself completely, giving him a huge win and an opportunity to rub it in everyone’s face? Why is he fighting against their release so very, very hard?
  20. I'm from a smaller state and I don't think it makes sense. I'll take tyranny of the majority over tyranny of the minority any day of the week.
  21. Do you have reliable sources to support your claims? And if they cheated Trump of a win in 2020, when he had control of the government, why didn't they steal the 2024 election too, when they had control of government?

Because it's all nonsense. Trump lies about everything and will never be capable of admitting defeat on anything, ever.

You were duped, conned by an expert conman. You're not alone.

  22. The establishment dems are moderates. Frustratingly so. What we need are politicians who support regular citizens over the rich and corporations. At least the dems are fighting for something that helps people in need vs the republican’s BBB.
  23. They did win the vote and once they started enacting their agenda people decided they didn’t like what they saw which led to the results last night. Trump won because people were misinformed, uninformed, or simply lied to by Trump and his machine.
  24. Not a single person associated with Trump reaches the “value” of von Braun and his fellow scientists.
  25. Sadly that's the conclusion I've had to come to recently. I wanted to have hope in my fellow Americans, just attributing their choices to being poorly informed or just foolish, but, no, they're just as mean and greedy as he is. They like watching people suffer, and now that they've had their first taste of cruelty, they want more, more, more. They'll be that way long after Trump is gone. They're just mean-spirited assholes. It sucks.
  26. > but every western politician seem to think that he/she/it can do whatever he/she/it wants and every criticism must be regarded as defamation.

Do you have sources for the apparently hundreds / thousands of defamation lawsuits brought by western politicians?

  27. A slight rephrasing:

Letting 70M+ Americans, many of which are children, go hungry is good for the country because it saves money. And if they don't die from malnutrition, don't worry, we're going to save even more by cutting their health coverage, and eventually social security, a program that people paid into their entire lives.

Take a step back...do you believe these 70M+ people are just lazy, inept, ...? Do they deserve to suffer, especially the children? What are we buying with their suffering? A reduction in spending? A tax break for the wealthy? Is this the only solution?

What if we were to create a real national healthcare system which cared for everyone at a vastly lower cost? That would also save money AND reduce suffering. Seems like a net win.

But that won't get us all the way there, so what else can we do? Everyone knows the answer, increase taxes on the wealthy. Top marginal tax rate used to be 90% (1950-1964), so perhaps there's some wiggle room between that and today's 37%.

This country needs a big old heaping of empathy and compassion.

  28. Property tax, sales tax, tariffs, ...
  29. I'm not sure I'll ever get over the fact that so many people, including a surprisingly large number of people here, voted for and support this clearly inept, mean, clueless, inarticulate, sloppy, disgusting, empathy-lacking, greedy, corrupt, incompetent, evil, childish fool to lead them. How anyone cannot see who this man clearly is after minimal exposure is simply beyond me. I keep telling myself that his supporters are just fools because that is much more comforting than alternative explanations, primarily that they LIKE was he is doing, all of it. We can fix foolishness (education), but I'm not sure how we fix a populace which doesn't value democracy and enjoys watching innocent people suffer.
  30. I’ve had similar experiences with sales people falling for other’s sales techniques. Somehow they don’t see it!
