  1. "american" viewpoints aka fascism and naziism and the promotion of white supremacist views. it will take so much time to undo this mess.
  2. as if straight / white causes in most western nations aren't "pushed" by default.

it's ok to know that gay people exist and that christianity is not the be-all-end-all of cultural practices.

  3. god forbid we teach children that people are different, and they matter, and they can love who they want and practice what religion they want. the horrors!

i hope your kids turn out cishet for their sake and only date white folk, otherwise they're going to be in for a bad time. what's so bad about caring for other people and respecting others?

  4. you can't see how asking for a hint and formulating using your own brain is totally different than telling the AI to code the entire thing for you?
  5. if YOU make a claim, you need to provide proof. simple as. anything else is a logical fallacy or malicious argument :)
  6. no, actually that requires congressional approval, and the government is currently shut down, mostly as a way to defer the release of the Epstein files. nice try, though.
  7. translation is absolutely not “100% solved” because LLMs exist. such a take is underplaying so much cultural and emotional connection it’s laughable. contempible even. if you are an OSS dev and have no money, you can find another OSS dev to help you translate instead of using offensive AI slop.
  8. it's actually wild; the first thing i thought after seeing the weekend results from recent events was how similar the veneration/usage of CK is to horst wessel. it's blatantly obvious, and quite worrisome for the trajectory of the us.
  9. how can you say you only want cooperation when the viewpoints you and your brethren share are dehumanising, against a peaceful world, against caring for the environment, against minorities, against queer folk, and against international cooperation?

we arent talking about “how many immigrants should we allow”, we’re talking about “trans people shouldnt exist”, “christianity is the true religion”, “deport all legal immigrants”, “gay people shouldnt have human rights”

  10. the man’s speech was against human rights for black people, women, lgbtq+. people are allowed to have free speech against those beliefs too. they are not “average”.
  11. it's such an insane american belief that the answer to safety is not: reduce gun amounts, reduce what guns people can buy, improve mental health counseling, improve healthcare, improve quality of life through cheaper housing and well-paying jobs, but instead the copout which doesn't even work--adding armed police outside of every school.

uvalde called, it doesn't work. and the rest of the world looks on in shame at this exceptionally american and exceptionally cruel system.

  12. america is not a country founded on a religious heritage. and regardless of what you may think of the beginnings of the country, it very quickly became a country of immigrants. there is no religion that should be placed at the head of the country’s belief system.

what moral anchor do you think we need?

  13. you know you can make your case better if you don’t use disrespectful and offensive language
  14. in fact, many proto languages were glyph based. human language and pictographs are intertwined— just look at how people use smileys, emoji, kaomoji, and more.
  15. meanwhile the entire world from japan to the uk to brazil to south africa are fine to go grocery shopping and take their family out in their normal sized car. in the city.

cities are better with fewer cars and better public transit. and you dont need a tank. i didnt know your viewpoint even existed.

  16. if the framing is “pandemic controls bad because my rights are more important than public health in a global pandemic” it’s not a very convincing argument.

we should stick to actual fact and issue here which is that these tools are bad for human rights NOW. not some mythic pandemic is bad bogeyman

  17. there is no more american dream, and anyone who “creates” jobs in this economy and era of rampant hypercapitalism isn’t really enabling or transferring wealth.

if there were ample americans to do these jobs, they should be able to get them.

nationalism is a silly idea, anyway. and we should have free trade and movement with our biggest two allies. american exceptionalism is a joke

  18. funnily, i had zero issue getting vyvanse after a nearly 20 year medication gap, and being hugely successful by most metrics. i went to a psych, did an eval, and got medication. i know there are issues, but it’s interesting how different people’s outcomes are
  19. not sure how useful this is. germany is a great place to live, safe, with great infrastructure and access to europe, good food, lots of personal freedoms, orderly society, few overtouristic’ed cities, and a thoughtful populace for the most part.
  20. the great thing is that we live in a society controlled by laws and corporations cant get away with testing everything they want on public roads. your freedom or desire for “responsibility” doesn’t negate others’ rights
  21. >propaganda

you mean a movement where an entire half of the population have been treated as less than, coerced, not has the same rights, earn less money, and are still routinely demonized with 2000 year old paleolithic thinking?

why do men think they can get away with everything, and that the moment women try to speak up they are evil?

  22. parody work is super popular-- people really love to see porn of their favourite characters, age/gender/year of publication be damned
  23. i've never needed to present ID in any mandarake or book-off or the like. of course if you go to events, they'll check ID to make sure you are 20+, or i'm sure if you look young. point is, the content is just there, even in some konbini, and it's not the norm, but certainly isn't demonised-- look at maid cafe and idol culture. /shrug
  24. japan has fully legal drawn porn of children and tentacle beasts and whatever else, you just need small bars over genitals and beasts. you can buy it in a bookstore anywhere across the country freely, how is this not “down” with adult content? weird take
  25. i cold turkey switched to colemak. i can go between that and qwerty. i went from t9 to full thumb typing. i use 5 different keyboards (with different custom layouts) daily.

the human brain can do all this and more if you let it and deal with a small amount of lag in building the neurons up

  26. so you have high speed long distance and commuter rail, and then local transit options. and you can stop at places other than coty centres. my route from berlin to hamburg has a bunch of smaller stops.

asia and europe get by fine with rail. if china can build 20 subway systems and 50 HSR routes in 10 years so can america

  27. unfortunately, there are millions of people for whom the cruelty is the point. the attacks on LGBTQ people, on hispanic people, on women, on anyone non-white just prove that people really do want these hateful cruel regulations, against anyone who is not what they deem as "american"

as far as meeting "actual people"-- yes, there are definitely people who are anti-gay anti-trans anti-women pro-war pro-hate pro-"america" and they are pretty gross, authoritarian, and fascist-leaning, and to me that's not what america is about.

saying that everyone's fear is made up is just coming from a place where white well-off christian people just don't see problems and that's pretty sad
