  1. XML and (previously SOAP) vs JSON was around the same kind of time too.

Using JSON for API calls was such a breath of fresh air!

  2. Just a note on Vision Pro - as it’s been priced at $3,500 - I’m not sure I’d say it’s unsuccessful.

I bet they’ve sold approx as many as they thought they would.

This product is a placeholder for a cheaper and lighter one in the future.

  3. Hahaha - this is genuinely funny. Not sure I've seen LLM content be actually this witty before.
  4. https://golazito.com/

I built a daily football (soccer) quiz a bit like Wordle but identifying 5 footballers by their career path.

Stating to get a quite a few people playing it each day now.

I suppose if it is ever to make any money it will need ads at some point but for now it is ad-free.

I’ve enjoyed making something simple and shipping it rather than trying to do something more grand.

  5. The whole world seems to be hooked on TikTok, reels and shorts for entertainment.

Reversing that would take some doing.

  6. But also, a lot of the dot com companies that people invested in in 1999 went bust, meaning those specific investments went to zero even if the web as a whole was a huge success financially.
  7. Agreed, sounds like that would be better.

I suppose the questions on SO are probably very varied in terms of the traffic they receive, attention they get etc. But there must be some parameters to make it work.

  8. So interesting that this post is about putting incentives in the right place.

I distinctly remember the number one fantastic thing about StackOverflow in the beginning was that their incentives were so much better than all the alternatives.

The way SO gave you points for answering questions and gave you more for being the best answer etc etc meant the answers you got there were so much better than anywhere else. This is why the site grew so rapidly and so quickly became the best place to get a great answer.

  9. Standard Ollama probably covers a lot of this
  10. Sure, but it melts off your face
  11. When you say you paid 0, presumably your just paid for it via a monthly contract over several years?
  12. This is defo true until the moment it gets so good people can't tell.
  13. That design is absolutely shameless
  14. Sounds good, thanks!
  15. Love this. I chose a small village and got a few clues like "War memorial", I'd bet there are many War Memorials in the 10km radius - so was impossible to know which one it meant.
  16. Yes, I liked the description of what it does, but at first glance am not sure what to do with the interface.
  17. In Venice (the Italian one) - cars, mopeds and bikes are all banned. Most trade goods are transported around by a man moving fast with a sack truck shouting 'Attencion!'
  18. Rails and Laravel devs happily still live in this world a lot of the time :-)
  19. +1 for signup. I'd have defo signed up to try it out, but I don't use Google to sign in to anything I'm afraid
  20. Wordpress is old school. The PHP of Laravel and Symfony is light years ahead of the stuff in Wordpress.

Maybe they need to stay close to the metal based on the performance they need?

  21. Laravel is more like Rails in that sense, if you’re building a regular app, Laravel is very very fast to get something finished
  22. A huge reason for the low power usage is the iPhone.

Apple spent years incrementally improving efficiency and performance of their chips for phones. Intel and AMD were more desktop based so power efficiency wasnt the goal. When Apple's chips got so good they could transition into laptops, x86 wasn't in the same ballpark.

Also the iPhone is the most lucrative product of all time (I think) and Apple poured a tonne of that money into R&D and taking the top engineers from Intel, AMD, and ARM, building one of the best silicon teams.

  23. Ahhh ok. Thanks!
  24. It’s not yet guaranteed that Uber will kill off black cabs but who knows.

I read that all Uber rides are subsidised by the huge amount of investment they’ve received as they try to gain market share. Maybe at some point prices will return to similar to cabbies?

Also I find Uber to be sometimes manipulative, they regularly lie about how long it will take for your car to arrive and how surge pricing is enforced.

I’m not saying I don’t use Uber, I do, but I’m not certain Uber is definitely going to win long term.

  25. Spotting that a container has a car in it is not the same as a stolen car. You’d have to open up each container and run the plates.
  26. My limited experience with discord was either no activity at all, or so much activity it’s hard to follow what’s going on.

I suppose I never found the right place

  27. What else can be hooked up to Ollama? Can Cursor use it yet?
  28. Cursor and code completion is such a time saver for me. Having the next few lines guessed feels magic.

Having an agent completely design/write a feature still feels weird. I like everything being hand written, even if I actually just tab completed and edited it slightly

  29. That’s one purchase I never regretted. Sublime was so perfect before writing code got tipped upside down
