  1. Maybe they are just calling the jobs by different names? It seems like names of roles are constantly shifting. "Data scientist" is a term that is going out of fashion.
  2. Which side are you talking about?
  3. You don't say?
  4. It's also a lot more fun to lose weight than maintain weight
  5. Oh, I'm usually trying to gather information in conversations with peers, so for me, it's usually more like, "I don't know, but this is what the LLM says."

But yeah, to a boss or something, that would be rude. They hired you to answer a question.

  6. I love the post but disagree with the first example. "I asked ChatGPT and this is what it said: <...>". That seems totally fine to me. The sender put work into the prompt and the user is free to read the AI output if they choose.
  7. This is exactly how I feel about both advertising and unnecessary notifications. "The signal functions to consume the resources of a recipient for zero payoff and reduced fitness. The signal is a virus."
  8. I find it nearly impossible to avoid divisive content online. There are so many cool things in the world, but I can't find them because my timelines are all flooded with culture war. I wish I could find a platform that would listen to me when I say "show fewer posts like this."
  9. What is their business purpose for releasing an open-weights model? How does it help them? I asked an LLM but it just said vague unconvincing things about ecosystem plays and fights for talent.
  10. Yep, agreed. Obviously you need to home meetings, even at the expense of killing a little of your mind.
  11. I agree with the continual-learning deficiency, but some of that learning can be in the form of prompt updates. The saxophone example would not work for that, but the "do my taxes" example might. You tell it one year that it also needs to look at your W2 and also file for any state listed, and it adds it to the checklist.
  12. "The future lies with autonomous systems that can write code that makes them smarter in leaps and bounds. This self-generation is a kind of autopoiesis, which is the process of building one’s own parts, like a biological system."
  13. Even if large language models (LLMs) stopped improving today, they still have yet to make their real impact on computer systems.
  14. In Texas, local governments plant trees all the time. The problem is that they don't water them and they die.
  15. I would imagine that if it is shameful among the established players to use AI, what will happen is that entirely new players will come in. For me, it's the story that matters, and if they can tell a better story with AI, then many people will naturally flock to them.
  16. Not quite on topic, but I really value it when the film is shot in the place where it is set. The first episode of The Last of Us took place in Texas, but since it wasn't shot on location the trees were all wrong. Same thing with X. The article mentions films that take place in LA but are not shot there. What a waste.
