- No need to apologize! It was totally rational to assume that these two events were unrelated. It is a wild sad story and we'll likely learn about the motive over the coming weeks. This story hit me particularly hard as I live about a 3 minute walk from the victim's house in the Brookline area.

- Maybe you can retro a fan into your current fridge. Nice little project!
- You should buy a fridge with a fan in the cooling chamber. My Samsung fridge has a nice fan and associated ducting to circulate air and keep temperatures ~uniform.
- ~$50k at MIT. Barely livable but livable. You can also complement this stipend with internships and other opportunities.
- Different perspective... As an NSF grad student I didn't feel underpaid -- I felt extremely lucky that I got to do cutting-edge research while being paid a low but decent, livable salary. Of course, I could have made more money going into industry -- but at least we have a choice with institutions like the NSF willing to support risky projects that move humanity forward.

Exactly the threat of AI. With regards to jobs, we'll have a shock but we will adapt as with any other wave of automation.

- Nice to see that this project came from the University of Puerto Rico! The university has a cluster of activity in astronomy thanks to the legacy of the Arecibo telescope.
- Research funded by the NIH which our government is actively gutting
