  1. You can subscribe to the Memes@lemmy.world community from your account on another instance, even if your instance has its own Memes community. Then when you create a thread or post a reply, it'll be sent from your instance to lemmy.world.
  2. There's Lemmy and Kbin.
  3. Did you buy it through Google Domains? I think you can migrate it to some other service without affecting the gdrive account.
  4. Where do you see this obligation to register your AI service?
  5. I'd advise you not to take a single article from a general news source at face value.

  6. Plus Reddit doesn't own the copyright to the posts, the users do.
  7. Yeah, Compiz could literally play a movie across two or three sides of the cube, with the video player "bent" in 90º. Felt quite impressive that the graphics card could even handle that.
  8. Only if it actually costs you more to use the credit card. If not, it's the cash buyers that are paying for your rewards.
  9. That's only true if you do not have overdraft, and therefore some transactions will be denied.
  10. Only because they have been artificially inflated? That seems unlikely; the materials and labor costs alone would take multiple years to pay off by an average family. Being able to move in immediately seems useful, even if currently we're paying way too much for it.
  11. That there were funds profiting alongside WSB was well understood in the discussions, IIRC.
  12. This sounds a lot like pg's Do Things that Don't Scale: http://paulgraham.com/ds.html
  13. Pretty green. An advantage of running very large infra is that it makes sense to spend engineering time optimizing energy use, even in a fully profit-driven sense.
  14. No, not all sites use identifying information to "enhance the prominence of information with respect to other information". YouTube doesn't have to use my location to decide which videos do show. In fact, I'd prefer it didn't.
  15. No, not everyone was angry about it. Biden, for example, said in January 2020 that it should be "revoked immediately"[1]. There were also other proposals backed by some democrats to limit it, like the EARN IT Act.

  16. Why would YouTube need to end? You could still search for videos, subscribe to channels, share them, etc. You'd just lose the sidebar.
  17. I don't agree; for most computing tasks, the result of every computation produced by each node is used. In Bitcoin, only the "winner" for each particular block gets their computation result used, everyone else literally throws their results away.
  18. Except that's not a winning move either, because (currently) you'll be heavily criticized for it as well.
  19. Yes, so what?
