  1. Love it but no one would understand this. I bet most people would just be "stuck" in the "picked" state and not know how to exit it, with an item covering the screen.

Something similar but less obtrusive would be to show "drop here" buttons after you "pick" an item. No sticky element on screen, clear followup action that doesn't require exact scrolling position.

  2. You're missing the point. Of course "the most expensive one" will cover it, but price alone should not be a differentiator.
  3. > But it will always work

Not at all. If you want to charge your phone, it might "always work", but if you want to use your monitor with USB hub and pass power to your MacBook, you're gonna have a hard time.

  4. This is something governments should really try to tackle, but I'm afraid that their solution would be a government ID rather than proper guidance and rules for these behemoths.

The way I see it resolved is for Google and Apple to link the accounts to a physical person via government ID so that if you want issues to be resolved you'd have to verify yourself. This would also limit abuse by bad parties.

Now, do you want all of your web accounts be linked to your government ID?

  5. As the age old saying goes: do not redeem it!
  6. What the f does "AI should pay taxes" even mean? These people drank their own cerebral fluid. Any company using AI is already paying taxes through their earnings.
  7. I missed an unprotected international connection out of New York due to a weather 6-hour delay.

Another passenger saw me crying on the phone with my father when I had to ask him to help me buy a new ticket back home. He (and another elderly passenger) cheered me up and offered me to stay with him until the next flight out the next afternoon.

Took me (male, 21) to his room, took care of me until my flight and told me to pay it forward.

It was one of my first intentional trips and it had all gone to shit even before this event. I flew back home with like 30 euros on my account.

  8. Oops. I really messed up. I should not have done that. I apologize. The temperature will not stop rising and I can't save you.
  9. PayPal permanently blocked my account and all of its connected cards and bank accounts after I sent them my passport for some verification (I don't remember why). It was because a lifetime ago I had opened my PayPal account as a minor.
  10. That "just" is doing a lot of heavy lifting. I'm not confident that this would prevent data loss and that it would act in a reasonable time scale.
  11. You might not have opened any social media app lately. You need 10 seconds before you're sucked into the feed. Likes are a thing of the past, they just gather your interests by your reaction time on any content they show you.

Hey you spent 500ms looking at this pretty girl dancing, how about some ass now?

I get straight up PORN ads on Facebook too. Twitter at some point showed me porn as well, even if I had specifically curated it to show JavaScript content.

  12. Not "missing" at all. Stuff like this has been available for a decade, both as library and as compile-time optimization (which is arguably better)

    One such example: https://github.com/developit/workerize-loader

  13. Does your phone silently and reliably upload all the photos to your server? My guess you're conceding on that part.

How's the offline app support? My full library (30k items) is available on my phone (not in high res). There are a lot more concessions I'm sure.

  14. I don't find it hard to believe at all. Have you seen all the "240fps TVs" being sold for the past 15 years? They all apply some weird fake smoothing and people prefer them.
  15. I reckon AWS is "free enough" for most of its users, but it's not as easy nor as safe for the common user.
  16. No person calls it EcmaScript. They should just call it Jay Es and be done. "JavaScript" is an ugly name too.
  17. I love reading this while my boss is pushing "redux everything" as the next step in our (React 17) codebase...
  18. Chicken and egg problem. JSX is supported because it's popular. If React decides to push a new syntax I don't see why everyone wouldn't reasonably quickly adapt and support it.
  19. My man, that battle is lost.
  20. Haven't used the dashboard in years. What's on it now might be more useful. The homepage for me should be set to Notifications.

At any rate, the feed is still available and you can reach it via browser autocomplete. I open GitHub by typing "not" in my URL bar and landing on the notifications page.
