- globalnodeI don't see the humour.
- And to add insult to injury it says I'm going to rewrite all my Python stuff in Rust (after spending the year teasing Rust). I got a good giggle from the comic book summary -- thanks for making this.
- ok, as a privacy enthusiast, some people just dont get it, and they never will. what you need to do is not discuss anything you dont want broadcast with them... ever. im even thinking of using edge or chrome so i look like a normie in a sea of normies. i mean i really dont have anything to hide but i dont want anyone to know that.
- How do you know something was written in Rust? -- they'll tell you.
- One solution would be for the SE's to publish their scraper IP's and allow content providers to implement bot exclusion that way. Or even implement an API with crypto credentials that SE's can use to scrape. The solution is waiting for some leadership from SE's unless they want to be blocked as well. If SE's dont want to play perhaps we can implement a reverse directory, like ad blocker but it lists only good/allowed bots instead. Thats a free business idea right there.
edit: I noticed someone mentioned google DOES publish its IP's, there ya go, problem solved.
- some of the descriptions above of thoughtful supportive work places where people are free to explore different ideas and question assumptions sound like paradise.
- i respect that you ate those downvotes standing up for what you believe
- yeah pretty sure its a private corp under the ownership of the parent foundation. no shareholders so not sure why they new guy said what he said.. theres no one to impress
- as soon as ublock goes, firefox goes.. more anonymity that way anyway since being a firefox user already makes me stand out from the crowd.
- all these world power grabs are manufactured stories with the back end being -- gimme your stuff. something something playbook something something.
- my view for a long time has been that the usa is a net importer of talent and ideas. that its cheaper to have someone spend 20 odd years training in another country and then just lure them in with the promise of big $... isnt that how its been working? or is this some new spin.
- no way? excel? and corporate programmers are not the majority of programmers? -- i mean im a non-corp programmer but i thought i was a special snowflake
- tcl/tk in python is boring but gets the job done, and its not that hard to customise buttons with a canvas if you really want. i think its underrated.
- Dont need to break encryption if you read data from the source -- O/S vendors will do it for you.
- Thats pretty much the only option. Doesnt need to be tails either, just a simple linux with no networking.
- What I dont like about computer todo or task lists is that they kind of describe you pretty well to prying eyes. As a privacy enthusiast im not that keen on having that info get out, especially with recall and possibly multiple other ai agents running around in the background looking through my stuff. I dont know what the solution to this is and Im not sure Linux will be free from this either in the future. Perhaps a disconnected linux box purely for todo lists that i manually ssh into to get access to? (but that would then be connected, hmm... perhaps through a physical firewall intermediary?)
- i remember playing with mode 13h, writing little graphics programs with my turboc compiler. computers were so magical back then.
- yes sure you can come into america, straight into a holding cell until you hand over your pins/passwords or go back home.
- ah i see, thanks. i have no idea what rust code looks like but from the article it sounds like a language where you have a lot of metadata about the intended usage of a variable so the compiler can safety check. thats its trick.
